It doesn't seem that difficult. Do you have any recipes you wouldn't mind sharing? I loves me a hoppy IPA! :)

    Thanks in advance!

I've been brewing using a 5 Gal two stage method having fun with friends and producing a delicious batch of fresh beer for years. My setup is over at my friends house now... I'll fetch and relay a favorite IPA recipe soon. The tip thats probably helped the most is to pay extra attention to keeping things clean throughout the bottling process.

    You watch Breaking Bad?

You can learn most of what you need to know from that show.

Brewing beer is pretty straight forward. You'll need a 7 gallon stainless steel cookpot, a glass carboy, some copper tubing and some patience. Just go to a brew shop and pick up a guide to home-brewing it will have recipes, directions for beginners and tips. It's pretty easy to do, but the main thing to remember is you must not contaminate the wort when it's cooling or during the bottling/aging process -- you'll end up with bacteria that will give your ale a very nasty funk.

I'd recommend brewing heartier beers like porters or stouts for people just starting out; they're harder to fuck up.

I always thought wow that's a cool concept. But, then again every time I drink somebody's homemade beer its never any good. But I always act like I like it.

so I fetched my tried and true favorite IPA recipe only to realize I couldn't make out some of the writer's cursive handwriting. In trying to figure out the proper names of the grains involved, I ended up entering the recipe's actual name into google and voila! This isn't exactly my recipe but pretty close

Step 1: A buddy of mine has all the equipment. I just sent this recipe to him...and will closely observe as he makes it.

    Step 2: Enjoy the creation!

Step 3: Purchase what I need to make my own in the future

With some friends I brewed some pale ale and it turn out great. It can't be overstated keep everything clean. Boil glass and metal items and it's best to buy bottles.

Without reading any of the responses, I'll just reply to the thread title -

You live in Portland, Oregon, and you're posting on a Trail Blazers forum. Throw a metaphorical rock, and you'll hit a poster that's home brewing right now.

I brewed beer as a fraternity pledge, but in the words of my favorite bartender for the better half of a decade, when I asked him if he wanted to go to the NOLA International Beer Tasting... "Nah, fuck all that shit. I drink Bud Light. Really... that's pretty much all I do. I cut the grass every now and then, and I work at a bar, but I guess really, I just pretty much just drink Bud Light."
