The Lakers are neck deep in luxury tax territory and their team is mediocre. I bet they'd be happy to offload Steve Blake. Anyone want him back? Serious question. No, seriously.
Then we could hire Nate McMillan back as an assistant coach and he could lobby to start Blake over Lillard.
Nate would have started Blake over Lillard wouldn't he? Seriously, he might have without an absolute edict from ownership, and that's scary.
Brandon Roy would have started Blake over Lillard... let's not forget who wore the pants in that relationship.
If it were as simple as just taking him I'd be fine with that. Problem is Blake is on the books for 4 and the Blazers only have the mini-mle.
I think the Blazers are done with PGs when they signed Watson (I thought Augustin would have been a good pickup). We are going to find out what Earl Watson is all about.
43% 3PT shooter off the bench and doesn't turn the ball over. Any team would be happy to have Blanky as a back-up.
The guy still lives in the Portland area in the off-season and is about as solid of a character guy as exists. I'd love him as a backup, but it would require a trade and I can't think of one that makes much sense.
That was sort of my thinking. Plus you can play him alongside either Lillard or CJ. He usually kills us when he comes back, too. But I guess he is overpaid:
What's to dislike? And when the competition includes JR Rider, Ruben Patterson, Kenny Anderson, Fat Shawn Kemp, Kenny Anderson and Bonzi Wells that's pretty harsh. And as for him ending up on the Lakers: we traded the poor bastard twice, to Milwaukee and the Clippers in the depths of their shittiness. (Anyone remember the press conference introducing him and Outlaw as Clippers? They looked like they were giving a press conference from death row.)
The only reason he kept his home here is because he moved his mom and dad out here and set them up in the same neighborhood that he lives in. After he retires clan Blake will move back to Florida.
He's good people. I'll take him here for as long as he wants to stick around. http://www.kgw.com/news/Former-Blazer-Steve-Blakes-basketball-camp-for-youth--214849261.html
This. Blake would be a great 2nd or 3rd string PG depending on how well CJ can handle things. Wow. It is amazing how many posters let their personal feelings and emotions about a player get in the way of making good decisions for the team. Even more ridiculous is that these posters don't want Blake because of a decision that McMillan made.
