They for sure need to retire Ben's jersey number. When you think of #3 for Detroit, you think of Ben. His name will be up in the rafters when he retires.

I think so, he played a big part of the championship team in Detroit and was one of their biggest stars for all this time. I think he deserves it for all the things he accomplished there/

I dont think so to be honest. Sure, he was a big part of the team...but he soldout on their franchise which is something that the fans probably dont appreciate.

I completely agree with you ballerman. anyone who would leave like that for a few extra dollars doesn't deserve to get his number retired. and anyways, if he get his retired, then why not retire Sheed's? Chauncey's? Rip's? Tayshaun's? my point is just that he contributed to a championship doesn't mena he deserves this high of an honor. hey, the celtics might as well retire danny ainge's number. or scott wedmans. or Eric Fernstein's.

Of course the Detroit Pistons should retire Ben Wallace's jersey. He was the face of that franchise and he worked very hard to become what he's become, one of the best defensive players in this league and one of the best centers in the league. I don't think that you retire Hamilton's jersey because he simply hasn't been around the orginization long enough and hasn't been the star offensive player or the star defensive player. Chauncey Billups and Ben Wallace deserve to have their jerseys retired but Richard Hamilton does not.

No way. If he'd stayed till retirement, there was a chance. But even with being their all time blocks leader, don't take retiring numbers lightly. It's usually only for guys who've been with a team their whole career, or all but a couple years.

As a Pistons fan, I do believe they should retire Ben's number 3. He WAS the face of the franchise and embodied everything the Pistons were about up until last year. Hard work, team work, consistancy, and fan friendly. Not to mention 4 defensive player of the year trophies (record). He did in a way sell out, but I feel like he got what he deserved. By that I dont mean 15 million dollars a year, but he deserved to have a big contract for all that he has worked for. The Pistons just could not match that offer because they would jeopordize the future of the franchise. Ben hasnt spoken ill about the city of Detroit or any of his teammates. He loves the city of Detroit and would have stayed had the pistons offered him 12 million a year. But they just couldnt do it. As much as numbers play a part in determining who should have their jersey retierd. I think the Pistons (and even the NBA) should pay tribute to the hard working guys out there. With the NBA today, there are a lot of so called "stars" out there who have raw talent so they dont work quite as hard, and they think they are God's gift to basketball, so they arent good teammates. We should honor a guy who has almost ZERO natural talent in the sport, but works his butt off to get where he had been. Hard work, and hard work ALONE, got him 4 defensive player of the year trophies and a ring. I think it would send a message to kids today that you can do pretty much anything you want if you put your mind to it. We hear that all the time and rarely ever see it. We all saw it with Ben Wallace.I think Ben will pull a Jerry Rice/ Emmit Smith move in 4-5 years when he decides to retire. Sign a one day contract with the Pistons and have his jersey retired in the Palace at the first home game.

No, he wasn't even a mainstay in Detroit for years. How many seasons did he play for them? Like 4? Retiring jersey numbers should not be given out like candy, it should be a honor, and I don't think Ben should have his jersey retired.

I dont think so. You would put him up there with Dumars and Isiah? I like Ben Wallace, but theres no chance you put him up there.

Definately put his jersey in the rafters. His career soared with Detroit. He made the All-Star Teams, he won DPOY's, he deserves it over the likes of Lindsey Hunter and Dennis Rodman. Vinnie Johnson has a retired Jersey, why not Big Ben? Also, Billups and Rip (If he plays 3 more years here) will have their jerseys retired as Pistons. Maybe Lindsey Hunter too.

I am in the middle on this one...they SHOULD Retire his number because....He was the face of the franchise for 4 out of 6 years. He made the All Star team.He is one of the best Defenders of all time. His Fro. [IMG] his intensityand his ability to stay out of the media for stupid things.they SHOULDNT retire his jersey because...First off, he wore three different numbers (3,30,90) which could correspond.lolhe left us when he shouldnt have.lastly, I see other Players Wearing #3 for The Pistons.since the good out does the bad, I guess he should have his number retired.as for Danny Ainge, it is sort of the same thing as Ben, but he is a part of the Celtics Franchise right now, so I would have retired it a few years ago, I thought it was already retired.

What does his ability to stay out of the media have to do with anything? Same question for other players in the future wearing 3.He's always going to be remembered as 3 if they retire his number. But if they don't, he'll just end up as dust in the wind.

Yeah, I agree that he will be remembered well, but he will also be rememberd as a sellout who signed with a division rival when we are still contenders. I don't think that, but other fans do.It's hard to believe that he will be remembered better than fans remember Adrian Dantley right now.He surely won't make the HOF. I would be shocked if he made it.

His success in Chicago really will determine him getting in. if he won another title and DPOY in Detroit he would be a safe bet and maybe one of the best in Pistons history. but if he does that in Chicago, he is almost a lock.
