Not in a league with LeBron James, Dwyane Wade..etc..I like Carmelo Anthony but he would have to have an amazing season (30/7) to be in the race. He will always be overshadowed by James and Wade. So I seriously doubt it.
Honestly, I can't see him being in the MVP debate this season, although I hope he will be. There are just too many talented teams out West, and too many talented players that would be better-suited MVP candidates than Melo in the Western Conference. He would have to lead the Nuggets to atleast 50-55 wins and average around 30, 8 and 5 or so to be considered an MVP candidate in my book.
I'm not saying that he's winning it this year, how about the following year ??? who really knows, what if he did have a monster year and for some reason the Nuggets overachieved. The thing we should be asking ourselves, is he capable of doing all this, if the answer is yes...............then there is no way we can just shut him out.NOTE: I'm not saying that he's the favorite to win the MVP, but to hear others say no way as long wade and lebron is in the league is not fair. Remember one injury can cost you the MVP and that can happen to any player.
I can't imagine him being a contender this season really. He would have to start oputting up as good of numbers as Wade and LeBron to get noticed. If he doesn't he'll just continue to get overshadowed by them. He also needs to lead Denver to a more successful season this season which I do see him doing though.
He'll be a darkhorse candidate like he wa slast year, but if he wants to get an MVP over Kobe, Bron, Wade, Nowitzki and Nash, he will have to score more PPG, grab more RPG, keep doing his clutch thing, and truly have a remarkable season. And more than anything, he will have to show he is the leader of the team and will carry them when need be (something he didn't do in playoffs). If all of those things happen, it's still likely Bron and Kobe will be the top 2 vote getters. It is gonna suck to be an MVP hopeful in the enxt few years with so many amazing candidates.
Carmelo will be a MVP contender, if he continues to maintain the level that he played at last season, hopefully improve even more, and most important, if the Nuggets win. A lot. He must lead the team to succes, to qualify for MVP consideration.
Duncan, Dirk, Wade, LeBron, Kobe all will be ahead of him. The Nuggets would have to win like 55 games.
He will not become mvp. If the nuggets get best record in the NBA or in the West and his stats were as good as last year with better rebounding, then he definitley has a chance. But wade is better all around and what he is doing for the heat along with his Decoy Center is great. Also,Kobe has a better chance of being mvp than most players if he just gets his team to the playoffs, due to the fact people believe he needed shaq to reach anything. I'm no where a kobe fan but if he gets into the playoffs its a wrap for anyone else. Especially if the lakers are seeded well or even just decently in the west. Overall, If Melo can show a takeover mentality like kobe or wade then he has a chance
He might come in 5th or 6th place, but guys like Nash, Duncan, Wade, Kobe, Bron, Dirk, hell, even Elton Brand are on a higher level than Melo as players, and I dont see the Nuggets record being high enough for a 2nd tier player like Melo to get consideration for winning the award.
Carmelo is too selfish and doesn't play enough defense to win the mvp award. He hasn't done much for the Nuggets and he hasn't carried them past the first round in the past three years. He's had so much talent around him but he can't seem to get them into the next round because he doesn't have the leader mentality that the league's superstars have.
I don't think he will be, or that he should be. He is an elite scorer, but he doesn't do enough of the other things to make him an mvp. he hardly plays D, he's not a good passer. He's an elite scorer, not an elite player.

The Nuggets lost there best big man off the bench in Nene for the whole season, Kenyon Martin hasnt been healthy all season, Marcus Camby missed a bunch of games and Melo STILL had the Nuggets leading the Northwest. What more do they want from the guy. He has put a team with injuries to key players in the playoffs by himself.Nene missed the ENTIRE season.Kenyon Martin missed 26 games.Marcus Camby missed 26 games.DerMarr Johnson missed 24 games.Earl Boykins missed 22 games.Eduardo Najera missed 18 games.Francisco Elson missed 10 games.Carmelo STILL lead his team to the playoffs despite never having a healthy roster. I think that is amazing.
He will never be an MVP candidate until he shows that he can take his team deep in to the playoffs. He needs to earn some more respect in the league. He has the talent and he has good numbers, but that is not all you need in order to be an MVP.
MVP is a team award. It is based on how good your team is doing. The irony is, that once you win it, you really don't deserve it seeing as how you are on a real good team anyway. The only exceptions are Bob Petit in 1956 and Kareem in 1976. When they were actually carrying their teams by themselves.

Or for that matter, a top ten team in the league?

If it really is for the Most Valuable Player, then Kobe should have ran away with it last year, but he didn't because his team wasn't high enough. Of course, Kobe is the reason why they finished that high in the first place. But the voters were too focused on sucking Nashes dick that they failed to notice.Sorry, that kinda turned into a rant.
