After lowing the price of the Surface RT by $150, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer has reportedly admitted to less than stellar sales of the hybrid device. A post from The Verge states the Microsoft executive took the stage during a recent internal town hall meeting. And beyond the issues with getting Surface units out the door, Ballmer admitted the company isn't selling as many Windows devices as planned.

"We built a few more devices than we could sell," said Ballmer, alluding to an overabundance of Surface RT inventory. Earlier this month, Microsoft reported a $900 million loss in the first quarter due to the struggling hybrid tablet. According to The Verge's source, Ballmer stated during the meeting that the price cut of the Surface RT was in an effort to boost poor sales.

Additionally, Ballmer stated the company isn't selling as many Windows-based PCs, phones, and tablets as intended. The PC continues to struggle in an increasingly mobile-oriented market, which obviously leads to lower than expected sales of Microsoft's latest operating system, Windows 8. The company recently released a preview of the OS' first major update, Windows 8.1.

Wait a few months and they'll cut the price again. It'll sell at $99.

I think they tried to cut into the iPad market, but they failed.

After Blackberry cut their Playbook tablet from $500 to $200 I bought one. It's been my main computer for a year and a half. Later I bought an Android Samsung Galaxy for $240. It sucks compared to the Blackberry.

Meanwhile the media writes many articles about the imminent demise of Blackberry and Microsoft. The media always uses the word "I-Pad" as a synonym for "tablet." Reviewers who have never tried the Playbook say it sucks because it hasn't sold because it has only 10,000 teenager games instead of 1 million.

You see no articles about all the other tablet brands, which have sold just as poorly because the media loves Apple. You read no heavy breathing over their imminent bankruptcies. Apple maintains a force of article commenters who bitterly attack Microsoft and Blackberry, but no other brands, in comments after each article.

Obviously from that, I like it a lot. I type all my posts on this virtual keypad. The buttons are bigger than on the Galaxy. The screen is bigger too, even though they're both 7 inches. The Playbook screen is cleverly designed to maximize the available part of those 7 inches.

Anyway, my point was that the media uses I-Pad as a synonym for tablets, giving Apple free advertising. There are many excellent brands of tablets. Even if Apple's the best, since when does the media use the current best brand in headlines as a synonym for the product (tablets)?

And commenters after articles seem to be paid by Apple, because they bitterly hate Microsoft and Blackberry (but strangely, they don't hate the Asian firms).

I have the app loaded but never use it. "Evernote for Blackberry Playbook" version 1.3 takes up 2 mb and is free.

A preloaded (i.e. free) Blackberry app handles .doc and .xls files, but there are other downloadable apps that do the same, some free and some not. I've downloaded about 300 free apps, but have opened very few. I don't really look at the paid apps. This thing has 16 gb and is half full.
