I wonder how much the prices would increase if they didn't double the salaries of the 6 & 7 figure executives...

The OP is arriving at the wrong conclusion. McDonald's is one of the most efficient enterprises in the world, and changing the minimum wage causes them to raise their prices by 17%.

Ripple that through the economy, with enterprises who operate much less efficiently than Mickey D's, and suddenly you have real purchasing power erosion.

Not all enterprises are as reliant on minimum wage inputs as MCD, but many of the places where we get our daily purchases--food, gas, etc.--are built on minimum wage jobs. That is real purchasing power erosion, and it would happen overnight. Is everyone willing to lose 5%-7% of their purchasing power? It would act like a butterfly that flaps its wings and causes a hurricane halfway across the world. Start at the bottom and that erosion ripples all the way up to durable goods and even housing.

Raising the minimum wage is a disaster that would ironically hurt the people its trying to help the most.

You may be on to something, maxiep--pay everyone minimum wage, including McDonalds executives and yourself. This would lower prices, because people with money like you had been making would no longer buy high-priced things.

Who gives a fuck? I wish the price of all McDonald's menu items would go up 100 fold. We'd save trillions in health care costs if people couldn't afford to eat that shit.

probably a lot since those executives have the education and business acumen to rise to the top, unlike minimum wage monkeys who can be replaced by basically anyone.

The sky is falling! You crack me up. The minimum wage has been raised many times, always in the face of the same ridiculous warning that just never comes true. It's a pittance that ends up coming off the top of the company's glutanous profits, and has the added benefit of injecting cash into the economy.

Realistically? If you cut their pay to $0, it'd cut the price of a big mac by way less than $.01.

In the olden days, entry-level jobs at McDonald's were for people just entering the workforce, be they HS kids looking for some money, or HS grads w/out college who wanted to move into management at some point in life.

In Obama's America, dumping fries into a basket and setting a timer seems to be a job that adults need to support an entire family, and they want to be paid accordingly.

McJobs, indeed. I do give fast food credit in that they don't move people to the counter, typically, until they prove they can actually set a timer or make a hamburger.

I agree with Papa. In the olden pre-Bush days, adults could find better jobs. Then came the insane years of 2001-08.

Just for a day (you won't make it past 4 hours), try a physical labor job, not a retail job like McDonalds. That's what most minimum wage jobs are.

Simply look up temporary daily employment. Each agency's description will help you find where the Mexicans work.

I lasted a full day. Mud all over my clothes, soaking wet from the rain, knees not bending, blisters from piledriving the sledge hammer. I needed a week of sitting around the house to recover.

I worked on oil rigs and an Exxon dehy plant for a summer of college. 7 days on, 7 days off on the rig, 12 hours a day. Dehy plant was in LaBarge, WY. I worked 31 straight days during a shutdown, minimum of 10 hours, max of 16. Made shitloads of money for a college guy. Oil rig was just outside of Big Piney, WY. I also loaded trucks with beer for my last year of college, sometimes up to 12 hours a day in the summers.

I love when office jockeys try the "walk a day in their shoes" routine. jlprk won't ever show his face to anyone else on this board, because he's the softest and whitest guy here.

Yeah. I scooped up the shit of research dogs and pigs at ohsu. Physical labor jobs are actually satisfying in my experience.

got more than minimum wage I think maybe 13 or 14 bucks an hour in the late 90s...during summer in college which was good.
