Mick, you are talking kids in one thread and retirement in another. Those two do not go hand in hand. Maybe you should be thinking "rental property" in Bend

I have often debated between retiring at the coast or central Oregon. Good arguments for both but one thing I noticed when the real estate bubble burst, coastal property went down in value, but less than the tri-county area and much less than Bend. Coastal property is a better investment, IMO. Still think I would rather live in central Oregon . . .

Or you could get "lucky" and The Big One could hit, thereby making Bend and what is now Central Oregon the new Coast.

Tillamook and Newport....... Tillamook floods after even a light rainfall, Newport is covered with clouds until noon everyday. Astoria gets hit by some storms coming through the Columbia.

Aside from that, I'm not sure what you're getting at weather-wise. I go to the coast 20 times/year. The weather at the coast is not nearly as bad as you make it seem. I'd say the storms I see are somewhat different than any I see at the mountain or in Bend, but for me, the blistering cold wind and snow scares me a whole helluva lot than anything at the coast.

Let's just admit your opinion of the coast is just that..... an opinion. And exaggerated opinion at that. You're biased, as you live in Central Oregon. No harm in being biased on such things.

It might work! The plan is a good start. The sooner you begin to execute, the more likely you will walk away from the job.

Hello from my vacation in Black Butte. Having a blast, today I biked from sisters up to Santiam Pass before the heat kicked in. Swam in the pool with my with a bunch of family in the afternoon.

Not biased. Just well informed through nearly 6 decades of camping and vacationing all over Oregon. I love the Oregon coast and we actually prefer going there in the winter and spring to watch the storms. But any weather synopsis will confirm that the sun shines less, the wind blows harder, and the fog rolls in more frequently than any other part of the state.

Yes and for those that don't enjoy the snow and cold-ass weather but for the brief storms we get in the valley.... There are a lot of Oregonians that want little, if anything to do with snow. Those that do, live I'm Central Oregom, the gorge, etc.

The Oregon beach sucks, in the eyes of this 21 year old.

We've had a beach house since I was... Uh, very young, and it always has been miserable except for a slim portion of the year. Always dealing with clouds, rain, etc. The storms are awesome, I'll give you that, but the beach isn't as much fun without the sun piercing into the room or being able to go enjoy the sand and water.

That said, any tropical beach where it is warm out for the majority of the year, kicks ass.

Arizona is awesome from October-May time...the rest of the time it is entirely way too hot.

The Oregon coast is okay, but it can't compare to Sunriver for me.
