Per MLB trade deadline show Young would only go to Texas. Amaro was interviewed after saying that was new to him, also stated that the Phillies would keep Lee and Utley. If, maybes, pehaps, and buts. Lot of stuff being spewed on the Phillies and Seattle talking Ibanez to TB, Morse to Boston, Morales to Baltimore yada yada yada.
From Jason Stark: If Phillies can't trade Young to Texas or Boston, trade to Yankees is still a last-minute possibility. Stay tuned. From Jon Heyman: angels callaspo expected to be available. with yankees mike young's 3rd choice, maybe they'll take a look.
Not sure how much stock you put in WAR, but Young's WAR is pathetic... its currently at -0.6... http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/y/youngmi02.shtml I don't see how that is a huge upgrade...
...WAR?...lol...see, that's the problem I have with many stats as well as how and when they are used...can you seriously tell me that you don't believe that Young would be a huge upgrade over the production from the 3B position the Yanx have had this year? Young .279 .345 .411 .756 Chris Nelson .243 .274 .306 .580 Youk .219 .305 .343 .648 Adams .198 .263 .278 .541 Cruz .182 .224 .200 .424 Gonzalez .176 .176 .206 .382 ...I neither said nor implied that Young was infallible...only that he would be a huge upgrade over what the Yanx have had this year...and he would.
huge, I don't think so... upgrade, probably... but definitely not huge... only 8 HRs, yes, that is double what we have, but still not HUGE upgrade... only 34 RBIs... more SO than BB... I just don't see it as a HUGE upgrade... and I never said that you said he was infallible... I just don't think he is as huge an upgrade as people think... and if he doesn't want to come here anyway, why put up with that?
...lol...an upgrade, but not a huge upgrade?...OK, whatever. If you choose not to acknowledge the difference, that's up to you. ...and I have no idea why you'd switch from WAR to RBIs and HRs to measure the difference. Young ............. 279 .345 .411 .756 BB 36 SO 57 Yankees 3Bmen .215 .274 .286 .560 BB 22 SO 98 ...and if he does end up in NY, that means he waived his NTC, which would mean that in fact, he DOES want to be here, no?
I really don't see him as a huge upgrade... there is a difference between an upgrade and a huge upgrade... Miguel Cabrera would be a HUGE upgrade... I really don't see Young as making too much of a difference. Besides, the Yankees would need to add a lot more pieces than just Young... and I don't see it happening...
Hammer with all due respect I'd have to agree with 59 here. Having Young would indeed be a huge upgrade. Michael Young = 8HRs Nix, Adams, Lillibridge (combined) 4 HRs Michael Young = 34 rbi, The 3 (combined) 34 rbi Michael Young = 279 average. The 3 (combined) 202 average Michael Young = .345 OBP, The 3 (combined) .259 OBP Michael Young = .411 SLG%, The 3 (combined) .266 SLG% Michael Young = .756 OPS, The 3 (combined) .526 OPS
I'll agree with Hammer that Young would not be a huge upgrade, an upgrade for sure, but he's on pace for like 11 HR and less than 50 RBI's this year, and he's a poor defender, bottom line is he will help, but let's not use the word "huge" for Michael Young.
...lol..."huge" is a relative and subjective term, but if it will make everything copacetic and stop the hair splitting, and stop the use of WAR and RBIs as a gauge, I'll withdraw the term.
Note the sarcasm below... and... If you factor in his defense... is he worth trying to get? I don't know... "Michael Young is great! Hey, forget that he has -0.6 WAR this season, he went 2-for-4 with a home run on Tuesday. His trade value just shot up. Plus he’s a veteran presence in the clubhouse! Warning: Has the range of a flower vase at third base. Beware of defensive risks if employing full time at the hot corner. The Rangers need a hitter, but at least in their case it would be to use Young at DH or first base." http://espn.go.com/blog/sweetspot/post/_/id/38676/rash-judgments-on-trade-deadline-eve
...don't know how many times I have to say it, no one said that Young was a monster as far as 3Bmen go...but when you compare him with the 3Bmen the Yanx have put on the field, this year, yes, he's considerably better.
From Jon Heyman: #yankees are still hopeful to land michael young but they haven't heard he'd approve a trade to them. #longshot
If the Red Sox pass on him we may see him approve it, just because he probably wants to get the F out of Philly, but from his standpoint it's going from done to almost done, may not be worth approving a trade for. And Yes, Young would be an improvement, I would welcome him with open arms hoping he can help get this team going before it's too late.
JIM BOWDEN @JimBowdenESPNxm 2m @FeinsandNYDN reporting that Yankees have been told that Michael Young would accept a trade to New York.
Young is not a HUGE improvement but a considerable improvement. Isn't that what it's about, improving a weakness? Might not take much either so the value on the return has potential to be big. Things can turn for this team with Grandy returning soon, which move Well/Ichiro to a less damaging role, so it's addition plus addition by subtraction - AND, who knows, those guys may flourish in that less weighted role. You add Young and there are fewer holes. I'd love McCann to eliminate that huge hole but don't have faith in Cashman pulling off multiple moves in this 11th hour.
OK, another 2 cents here, Young would be ideal for 3B and platooning with Overbay. That said, it is an improvement, we need it to be about a 4 game improvement along with whatever other acquisitions we're getting if we are going to smell the playoffs with a third of the season to go.
http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/ya...-young-would-accept-trade-to-new-york-yankees Source: Yanks, Phils work on Young trade July, 31, 2013 JUL 31 2:35 PM ET By Andrew Marchand | ESPNNewYork.com RECOMMEND0TWEET25COMMENTS0EMAILPRINT TAMPA, Fla. -- Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Michael Young is willing to waive his no-trade clause to join the New York Yankees, baseball sources said, and now the two teams are trying to work out a deal before the 4 p.m. deadline. Michael Young Michael Young #10 3B Philadelphia Phillies 2013 STATS GM 99 HR 8 RBI 34 R 40 OBP .345 AVG .279The Boston Red Sox are also interested in Young, sources said. If Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez is suspended by baseball under the CBA, he would be unable to play even during an appeal. The Yankees have had little to no production at third base. Young could also play first base, where the Yankees have struggled versus lefties. Joe Girardi would have him DH, as well. Young has a .770 OPS against righties and a .714 against lefties this season. He is a free agent at the end of the year. Young, 36, is a seven-time All-Star with a career batting average of .300.
