Yankees make no deals prior to trade deadline By Mike Axisa 4:35pm: “We had a lot of conversations. Some gained some traction, some were immediately rejected,” said Cashman to reporters. “It wasn’t a deep market at all. It wasn’t a deep pool to swim in. We didn’t get anything to lead us to a deal. We certainly explored it enough. Soriano was the big bat we got.”
And you admitted you didn't want him Cashman, so what is your response that in fact you did nothing...
Exactly - he trashes the owners (who deserved to be trashed on many levels) for going out and getting a hitter for a decrepit offense, yet over the last week since that deal - he does nothing but give us the old "we had discussions, we kicked the tires, we got close, nothing materialized, etc." Translation Brian - you did jackshit.
Which brings me back to my corporate days and the deception and strategy that they have implemented. Hal and Hank could only allow Cashman to not field criticism from them if he was part of the fraud. This is about profitability. I found it funny that Cashman spilled his guts about the Soriano acquisition. You only do that if you want to get fired or you are part of the bigger picture. Getting fired is easy, however this is just the first phase of breaking down the old culture and turning the success equation to the balance sheet and not world series. We have only experienced the tip of the iceberg, next off season will be more telling but the direction of this franchise has been declared.
Hopefully the idiot sons sell the team sooner rather than later. When not being able to write a larger check than the other team to procure talent Cashman has been as effective as wet toilet paper. With his words and inactions he is doing everything he can to be fired from this sinking rat ship although I think he has earned that on his own merits
I've said time and time again that Cashman is not a real general manager. He was just operating for years with a bank vault full of money.
Were there other teams acquiring good players? did I miss something? The clueless hate continues, it was a dead market, deal with it.
I agree with you about the market this year. There was just nothing going on. That being said I've had issues with Cashman long before.
...yup, I can understand Cashman not taking it up the poop chute because it appears that the only player they were even close to getting was Young. But what's the excuse for not at least getting something for Hughes and or Joba?
Same excuse....or reason that we've been saying over and over....cashman is a shitty GM and always has been. He's a check writer. Nothing more. When it came time to be creative, he's a zero.
Most likely the "excuse" is that nobody wanted them enough to offer anything NY can use right now, would you? the McCann thing was a joke, and just dumping them was not something they need to do.
...Cashman should have been playing both sides as far as being buyers/sellers. IMO, once he found that he couldn't make the desired deals to bring some players that could help the team right away, he should have gone into the "selling" mode and try to look forward to 2014.
...could be, but for one, the 3 way deal in which Detroit got Iglesias and Boston got Peavy was actually fueled by the threat of suspensions.
