Holy Crap. Don't know if he will go on DL or play through it. If he plays through it something will give out or blow up in no time. Sorry if someone already posted this.
Jeter would be better off shutting himself down for the season if he wants to have any chance of playing next year and anything after that. We all know he's going to end up back on the DL so this play through it nonsense is ridiculous. The bottom line is that this is the reality of a 39 year old athlete trying to rehab some very serious injuries.
Yeah I agree. Jeter should call it a season and see how he comes back next season after having a injury free winter and normal preseason.
I love the guy and it has been an honor watching him put together a spectacular hall of fame career. Certainly I can be 100% wrong but his career being over certainly is not something that's out of the question. When he broke that ankle in the playoffs some people actually said it was possible. He has plates and screws holding things together right now. As we all know we're not talking about a 26 year old here. Playing short is putting stress on those parts which isn't good. Favoring and playing at half speed is how you end up with other injuries. I'm sure he will be spending the off season evaluating things. I would like to see him for at least one more year and have a proper good bye tour which he deserves.
I know a season like this takes it out of a player like Jeter who has had the double thrill of watching his team lose and then the added frustration of him getting back on the field. But he is in such rarefied company I feel that he knows that 100+ hits puts him at 6 or 7 all time. I feel he has to go for it. With that said, The Yankees have so many nightmare scenarios either on going or facing them next year it will be bizarre. For instance given the facts that Jeter physically could be breaking down, what type of contract is given. It is a business. The Yankees have to sign him obviously, but it should have a huge sliding scale of how many games played for example as the centerpiece of a new contract.
...yeah, on one hand, if I were Jeter and saw the mess they have, I might wanna hang it up. ...on the other hand, it I were Jeter, there's no way I wanna go out like this...hell, Mo pulled it off, maybe Derek Sanderson Jeter can too.
It would be great if he could head up an investment team that could rescue the Yankees from this group of idiots.
I feel in order to do it, and I know you get this, Jeter would need to make a position change to 3B or 1B to save strain on the ankles and legs, assuming that Arod is suspended and after the appeal, why overpay for a 3B when we are, or should be in semi rebuild mode. Jeter is due the privileged to retire with all the accolades and respect befitting arguably one of the greatest Yankees of all time. I have learned never to questions Jeter's heart. I believe he could have 2 more productive years but it will require concessions on his part also.
I said the same thing in another thread. Jeter needs to shut it down for the rest of the year & come back for his FINAL season in April.
While I agree that his days at short SHOULD be over... can you really expect someone at 39 to learn a new position?
I've had the same thoughts in recent years. If Jeter was in on an investment group that bought this franchise you know it would get turned in the right direction.
That it would... look at the notable athletes involved in organizations... Pittsburgh Penguins are owned by a group including Mario Lemieux, Texas Rangers are owned by a group including Nolan Ryan, Michael Ilitch who never made it to the bigs, but played minor league ball owns the Detroit Tigers and the Detroit Red Wings, to some extent Jerry Richardson who owns the Carolina Panthers, Jerry Jones never played pro ball, but was a co-captain of a collegiate championship team, Magic Johnson is part of a group that owns the Dodgers who are doing well right now... are there bad examples to, yes... Michael Jordan seems to be tops on the list...
...can't really play him anywhere...the OF and 1B are out of the question and I don't think he has the range or the arm to play 3B...and I can't see him as the full time DH either.
I don't disagree with you... I can't see Jeter willing to play anywhere but SS.... so unless the Yankees bring in another SS, he's their guy...
