It's a grade 1 strain, 2 weeks to full recovery, not a big deal, yes it's unbelievable and yes Jeter is old and on his way out, but not now and not like this, he'll be back soon.
Wow Im surprised some of you think Jeter might hang it up. I didnt even think that was a possibility. Thing is if the yankees really down spiral, you wonder if they would even bother to bring him back once his deal ends. I dont think Jeter would want to play for another team at this point, and he may find himself retiring the way Posada did.....sort of because it was either play somewhere else or not at all. But i agree with those who said no way Jeter would go out on an injury. Much like Mo he is way to proud for that.

There's no way Jeter walks away with this season being his last. I fully expect that he will exercise that $8M player option, give himself a full off-season to recover, and go into 2014 as healthy as possible. Just like Mo decided that he was not gonna let falling down in a crumpled heap in KC be the last time we saw him - this is not the way Jeter will go out. BUT - I also do not think that him playing to 43 (as he's stated) is gonna happen. Let's see how he does next year, but 2014 may be it depending on how he plays.
...actually vette, his option is considerably more than that. ...and Mo's position is not near as demanding as Jeter's. Not saying I want Jeter to give it up, only that he may consider it.
If I'm Jeter, I'm not going out like this. In the off season I dedicate myself to whatever conditioning allows me to be on the field in 2014, but he has to realize it won't be at shortstop and like with Cal Ripken, a move would allow for preserving his fragile 40 year old body. I could see a move to 3B. But if he can come back with regaining some of his athletic mobility then he could have a 260-300 type year. He will lose all the infield hits he once was able to beat out, so the average would suffer.
I agree blue. Right now I don't think the word Retirement is even in his vocabulary. And also if when he does come back in two weeks & the Yankees are all but out of the wild card I agree he should shut it down. Just no sense in causing further damage for no reason.
When a player(s) like Jeter reaches the records with this franchise like he has. And he has represented the Yankees with such class, the Franchise owes it to Jeter to let it be on his terms, money aside, he deserves the farewell tour when he decides to hang them up. With that said, Jeter also strikes me as a player that once he realizes he doesn't have it anymore, he'll have no interest in playing at a level that wasn't acceptable to him.
...good intentions are all well and good, but the fact remains that he's trying to make a comeback playing one of the most demanding positions on the field...don't get me wrong, I'd love to see him return but realistically, I don't see it happening. ...the only thing worse than DJ going out on a bad note is embarrassing himself by trying to do something his body will no longer allow him to do.
