There was a team meeting Monday night according to the Wall Street Journal http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424127887323420604578652594171507604.html?mod=wsj_share_tweet
Cano was obviously there to tell all these half baked retreads and AA players that its time they stepped up and gave it their all on every play. nothing short of 110% effort.
The players must have laughed. Jeter can't even stay in the lineup, Cano has dogged it when his team needs him most and Girardi allows it to happen without repercussions. Only thing missing is Gardner to tell everybody they have to be smart on the base paths.
but who is he to talk? he loligags his way to first all the time, and seems to show no effort... is this a case of "Do what I say, not what I do"?
My sentiments exactly, even Harold Reynolds & nerd Brian Kenney were capping on Cano for his lack of hustle lately.
Hammer, "There's no loligaging in baseball." Oh, wait, that's "There is no crying in baseball", and it is we have a bunch of loligagers! But the way these loligagers are playing it's making the fans cry for Cashman's Head!
I think it's a combo of the way they are playing, some of the decisions made i.e. signing Youk (an very injury prone old guy) to a huge deal and then seeming surprised he got injured, and then ownership telling him he couldn't open the wallet before they changed their minds and said he could... by that point, some options were gone...
There is doubt there is no way to respond to a season like this. Every team has injuries, and many Yankees have become brittle by age, but the re-injuries, (Jeter IR's 3 times). Tex, not here in beginning, back one day gone the next, Grandy, same as Tex. I blame Cashman for the off season and for the mess on the field, but this is a lost year. So we will be 17 for 19 over the past 2 decades in post season play. No other professional organization in sports have that.
