Perhaps, but i do not see players like Garza, McCann, Young or Ellsburry taking nice modest deals. Cano alone is gonna cost them. I only hope they draw a line but I am pretty sure they will not. Probably will have to over extend on years and dollars as usual. Throw in Cashmans favorite toy, the NTC and you are looking on some potentially bad deals again. Lets be honest, they are not signing all of those players. Not happening. But thats what happens and what you have to do when your farm is a failure.

    My Wish List

Ellsbury CF (Adds a productive bat, 50+ steals capability, hurts Red Sox)
Jeter SS (if ankle allows, possible 7 or 8 in order to avoid DP) Nunez back up
Cano 2B (doesn't matter) Nix Backup
Tex 1B (I know) (Overbay Backup)
McCann C (It's only money, it's the Yankees way) Romine backup
    Soriano/Overbay (DH)
Headley (3B) (in trade with Gardner, Prospect and Clairborne going to SD) Nix back up.
    Grandy (LF) One year contract
    Suzuki/Well (RF) DH, versitility

...Pettitte and Mo's salaries will be gone...that more than takes care of Garza and then some...Youk and Granderson's money should take care of Elsbury and Young...not to mention the other money coming off the books.
...supposedly ARod's salary will be freed up and who knows about Jeter and his future.

    ...money won't be a problem.

Maybe not, but how willing they are to spend might be, and actually landing all of those guys. For instance i seriously doubt the yankees will be in on Ellsbury. Just call it a hunch. I think they have no choice but to be in on Garza and McCann and really they almost have to be out for Young too, if they are not then i really do not get their plan. I would also worry about the lengths of some deals. As we know, they will have to pay Cano and probably will, so that sucks a lot of the cash you just mentioned too.
Asking a GOOD GM to go out and sign 4-5 top free agents to reasonable deals is tough.

That rotation less Kuroda wont cut it. The more i think about it the more i think the yankees HAVE to go after Garza. And he is far from the perfect target but they need to upgrade somewhere in that rotation. And no Fing thanks to Hughes.

...not really because Cano is making $15 already...he'll obviously get a raise but I doubt it will be more than $7.5 Mil.

...as far as Elsbury, I gotta believe Boston will do everything they can to keep him away from the Yanx...btw, I agree with trading Gardner...I am so sick of hearing about his defense. I think we can do better in CF.

Usually when Boston wanst to keep one of their own, they lock them up before they hit free agency. I think its a decent sign he will not be back in Boston.

...if ARod's money is gone next year, they'll have $135 Mil to spend...and again, who knows what Jeter will do.

...but you can bet that Boston will at least take the bidding to another level if the Yanx are in the mix...the Sox and Yanx have been playing that game for a long time.

Yes but the one thing cashman has been "good" at is over paying players he wants passed the breaking point of Boston. He's free game once he hits free agency, will almost definitly get more than Boston is willing to pay. What remains to be seen is the Yankees interest in him ( should be high but I am not so sure) and their willingness to pay like they used to.

One thing will be sure after we go through the next off season. Is the man behind the curtain, no matter who he is, going to spend to keep the brand relevant. If not, which is our worse fears could come true. The fans will not accept this and only pure arrogance would allow it. Another real possibility.

The big concern is the rotation, they can fill out the field with mediocre players and still be better than this team, but Kuroda is probably gone, can't imagine he'll want to stay, Andy and Hughes are gone, thankfully, and CC is the new CC... so who knows what they'll do, if there's a concern about being worse in 2014 the rotation is the big issue.

...I can't think of one player who left Boston to come to NY and was overpaid.

... pretty much all of them were important pieces of Championships.

Id take Colon back on a 1 year deal. Why not. So hes one of the roiders. Its not like the yanks haven't had their share of that. But man that list is ugly.

Garza stands out, he is a known quantity in AL East, I know I will get crucified for this, but what about Lilly if healthy. The one that I don;t understand is John Johnson. He has lights out stuff, went to alot of Marlin games (me and the other 4000) before new stadium, gave up our season tickets cause kids were to old, but he was like a Young Roger C.

Good thought, Kuroda and Colon money would be about the same wouldn't you think?
