Our old friends the Las Vegas Culinary Union and UNITE are working hard to keep fucking with the UFC. They have sent the Mass. Athletic Commission a demand that they not license Chael Sonnen to fight since there is some kind of clause in their charter stating that a fighter who lacks moral turpitude can be denied a license--Sonnen's prior money laundering debacle and subsequent drug test failure both being ammunition for such a change. For anyone still unaware, these unions are fighting with the Fertitta brothers, owners of the UFC and of Station Casinos, the non-union casinos in Las Vegas. The Union and UNITE are seeking to unionise Station but have been thwarted thus far, prompting them to lash out at Zuffa's other business interests. Sonnen is set to face Mauricio Rua in the main event of UFC Fight Night 26 in Boston next Saturday.
Re: Chael Sonnen still isn't licensed to fight in Boston MSAC spokesperson Terrel Harris subsequently confirmed that the five-member commission voted unanimously to license Sonnen after evaluating his use of testosterone-replacement therapy and several complaints against him by activist groups. via junkie
