Given the lack of production from these 2, admit the mistake, eat the money on Wells and bring up Betances and Mesa now. Mesa had a nice little run in limited time and this gives the Betances a chance to get comfortable for the blowouts that are about to come.
I see no reason not to wait for September at this point, also they may get something for them on a waiver.
In 3 weeks we'll see guys like Mesa, Sanchez, Betances & Murphy. How much playing time the'll get is anyone's guess.
Look, by getting rid of them, you would obviously put them on waivers, which I guarantee you has happened Rusty. Scouts by this time of the year have seen everyone's else garbage to. I am sure that they wish someone would claim Joba, and maybe before the September 1, deadline for setting playoff rosters there would be a chance but lets move forward. Bring Betances up now. Well, why would anyone care about Wells, bring Mesa back up, he has more tools than Wells at this stage of the game. He can't be anymore unclutched than Wells has been for the past 3 months.
There's plenty of time before the deadline, and teams may get more desperate, I understand the desire to just get rid of them but there's really no rush, showcase the dead weight and hope they can do something to open some eyes.
