Anything is possible but not likely.

Those teams are all clearly better than the Yankees, not sure why any fan would reach for that to happen.

As Rusty said, its time to realize this team just really is not very good. I wish they would have realized it sooner so that they could have acted accordingly, but what is done is done. I hope they are working on a plan for next year, because its not getting any better for them anytime soon.

It was too much to overcome this year. They had a very long run of success. It's time to refocus and build a team for the next 15 years. I wish the other teams I root for had this level of success since the mid 90s.

That certainly isn't insurmountable but this years team doesn't have it. So many holes to fill and Cashman has never really shown that he can rebuild, it's always been patchwork because that was all that's needed. Feeling mighty low...

Let's be clear, Cashman and the Yankees have not shown they can get much from the farm, but when it comes to filling holes with free agents and trades, they've done a good job, so rebuilding is not going to be a big issue, not with the money they have, the only thing that can stop them is the players available.

As Bill Parcells used to say - at some point - you need to come to grips with who you are. And right now, the Yankees are a trending down team, one game above .500, and behind many teams to reach the playoffs. The record says what you are, and that record is not playoff caliber.

Well hold on. They have done a good job by over extending massive contracts to players. That helps in the short term, but you see what it can do long term. CC, Tex, A-rod of course are all contracts that they wish they could be rid of now. We may be soon throwing Cano's name in there. Building team through FA is great, but they need to be carefull with some of these deals going forward.

I don't understand these long term deals where the teams have absolutely no leverage. It's not just the Yankees. The Angels have a player who's clearly on the downside for another eight years at big money. Plus another big money guy with four years left and who's hitting .217.

I don not believe Cleveland NOR Baltimore are "clearly" better teams than the Yankees,.....they currently have a better record than the Yankees but there's still plenty of season left.

Texas is another story....they have a fine team but they will be missing a big bat (Cruz) the rest of the way.

Both the Indians and Baltimore have solid DIFF's, not great, but enough to be a contender, the Yankees are deep in the red.

They're both clearly better teams than NY.

Not to mention Texas has tied Oakland for the division lead. One of those clubs will be holding the second wild card spot. The Yankees simply aren't better and will not be jumping over all of these teams.

I mean reality has to set in for everybody right now. Any glimmer of hope this team had of getting into the playoffs was snuffed out when they decided to go 1-5 against the Padres and the White Sox. Now you have a Detroit team coming in who has won 12 straight, is clearly a much superior team and is licking their chops right now. The Yankees can very well be double digits out of the last playoff spot by the time the weekend is over.
