Hey Sly, could you please rename this thread to include the new Arena name when it's announced? I don't want to keep digging through the comments to find it.
Seems pretty plausible. I can see where their advertising investment would help them with name recognition. Even if it is regional. Not the best name I can think of, but it could be worse.
Chris Haynes @ChrisBHaynes 1m Brace yourself: The "Rose Garden" will not be part of new name. No potential buyer would have agreed to that. #Blazers getting a good deal.
I kind of hope its not MODA just so I can listen to Issac eat crow today. The Blazers have hired IVARONI as their head coach!
If its MODA I wonder what they call it. The "MODA Health Center" won't do much good for the image of past Blazer medical staff.
This isn't a big deal at all really. Every arena tries to find a buyer for its naming rights. Everyone in Portland will still call it "The Rose Garden" just like every fan base in other cities still call their arenas by their most liked name instead of what's hanging on the arena. For the first year or two sure a lot of people will call it the Rose Garden but after that I bet most people call it by the new name. All media will be using the new name so bit by bit the new name starts to stick until eventually the old one isn't used much at all. Thats why these are long-term deals. Nobody has called Jeld-Wen "Civic Stadium" in many years.
This is very true. I know that is what happened in SLC with the old Delta Center. It took about 2 years, but little by little Energy Solutions was used by most fans.
Hmmm well I haven't heard anyone call it Civic lately but I don't go that often. I hear PGE Park a lot though.
just giving you crap Your point still rings true though... eventually people stop calling it the old name. Or at least the vast majority
