Actually, come October 1st our premium is set to go down (we received a letter from ODS/MODA). But on this date we will be able to go shop for a new plan anyway so it doesn't matter. Oregon will have the best exchanges in the nation.
Foolish, uninformed post. I'll believe it when I see it. One state doesn't make up for the other 49. As the person that oversees the health care plan and administration at my work, when I'm handed a sheet that compares our current plan with our current carrier with the same plan (or as similar as possible) offered from our current carrier and 18 other carriers, I'd say I've seen first-hand what's currently going on with insurance rates. And guess how many companies of the 19 were offering a decrease year-on-year? If you guessed even one, you've over-estimated. But clearly, one would expect such a foolish, idiotic statement, considering you clearly didn't (can't??) read the article: "It’s also a relative rarity at this point. Of the half-dozen or so states that have made public their 2014 health insurance premiums, Oregon is the only place where I’ve seen insurance plans ask to reduce their rates (if there’s a state I’ve missed, do let me know in comments)." Who's foolish and uniformed, again? Please tell me. You post something to support your POV, and it actually backfired. Niiiiice. Keep drinking the Kool-Aid.
I'm not saying they didn't. But considering the "promise" of lower rates..... it's a bit disappointing that our company's health insurance rates are seeing their highest increase, both percentage-wise and dollar-wise, since our company started in 2004. I'm not talking about history. I'm talking about the difference in what we, the American Public, were told regarding Obamacare, and what appears to be reality.
Another foolish post: http://healthaffairs.org/blog/2013/08/01/health-industry-price-inflation-at-historical-low/ Please know what you're talking about, then post. And again, I JUST told you my MODA rates are going down on Oct 1st. What else happens on that date? OREGON EXCHANGES OPEN.... #getyamindright
Another foolish post. Again, as your article states, OR is the only state people are seeing any sort of decrease. And it's not across the board. I'm sorry you fail to see you alone, your rate, is going down. Not universally. For all Americans. In every state. Regardless of carrier. And the rates I was provided, again, just last week are for January 1, 2014. These are hot of the presses. These are what the rates will be. You're going off articles. I'm going off what others are telling me specifically and what I'm seeing across a broad band of carriers. Dental and health are two quite different ponies, BTW. #dontbedumb #samplesize
I guess myself and the company I work for are not poor enough. Guess I'm subsidizing you bitches, at least according to this: "The new insurance rates won’t come without trade-offs. In Louisiana last week, the state’s BlueCross BlueShield plan said it expected premiums to stay flat or decline next year for about 75 percent of the individual market when subsidies are included. The remaining 25 percent will likely see increases, with rates more than doubling for some people who make too much for the financial assistance, the company said." Whatever it is, doesn't change the fact that all re-published rates I received were higher than last year. I'll be ecstatic if they come down. But everything I've seen in my face indicates otherwise.
Not to derail this thread because it has degenerated into something completely not about the OP but, I will say this and be done: I would much rather subsidize HUMAN CITIZEN'S Health, Than These Oil Corporations and Monsanto. They take billions every year for absolutely nothing. I'd rather my taxes pay for people to have care than for corporate welfare. It costs WAY less to subsidize early care than for my premiums to skyrocket because of unnecessary, expensive trips to the emergency room. Edit: And you are not subsidizing me. I pay my premium EVERY MONTH.
^ This for sure. I am on board with this mentality. Otherwise, I could care less about the arena name. PGE to Jeld-Wen, Rose Garden to Moda. Meh whatever.
It's how it works, dude. Check the math. Read the articles you read. When everyone was freaking out about increased rates, why would my rates go up if everyone is paying their premiums? You do have some sort of semblance for how they come up with rates, right?
Star Wars Night will be fun when they re-name it the Yoda Center. Personally, I think we should protest the name by making every night Star Wars Night.
We know for sure that Allen will spend the $4M per year on the Blazers.
He brings up points that have nothing to do with Oregon health insurance, but whatever. I guess I'm supposed to feel bad about Paul Allen lessening his annual loss on the the Blazers? He's one of the most extreme stories of capitalism's success in US history, and some Blazer fans are up in arms over some naming rights being sold. Typical PDX hypocrisy.
How about this song for opening night: Who's the black private dick who's a sex machine to all the chicks? Shaft!! Who is the man who would risk his neck for his brother man? SHAFT!!! Damn right! They say this cat Shaft is a bad MODA (shut yo mouth!) Isaac Hayes was seriously cool.
