papag, very different than in Russia. In Russia (im not making a yakov smirnoff joke) the laws are such that they promote the violence and the police are such that they are not stopping, and in some cases aiding the violence.

There will be violence as long as there is bigotry, but when that violence is state supported (either de jure or de facto) than it rises to a different level and becomes a much scarier place to be the threatened group. If you can't go to the police for help, you are just expected to suffer the violence.

Obviously I protest antigay violence wherever. Unlike some I could name. My comment was that in the articles I've seen there were more extensive descriptions when available. When someone is jumped from behind at night and beaten unconscious they may not have a very good description, unfortunately.

No one asks for it. Ever.

The two at the bar last night were either asking for it, or are the stupidest people in my town. (or both)

You mean, if I walk into an all-black bar and start shouting racial slurs....that's not asking for a beatdown?

    Holding hands?

    wow.

Are you asking for it if you hold hands with your girlfriend or wife?

    just wow.

Way to avoid the question when you make (another) silly statement.

Maybe you should re-read what I wrote. Wow, just wow. Clueless.

come on Denny..you have been almost genuine to this point, and a bit of fun to banter with...dont go side ways on me now..it was obvious in the story that they were doing more than holding hands...

It is extremely unlikely that this is true.

What you described happens all the time by straight couples in bars. Are they asking for it too?

and to make sure we are not going to be avoided on some hair splitting BS point that you may belabour

while "it" may not be asked for, ones actions may be rewarded just the same.

Some men hear about a woman in a short skirt getting raped and say "she was asking for it". That's just dumb. Perhaps she could have been more cautious and lived her life in such a way to never make anyone attracted to her, but most of us agree that the woman is not asking to be raped just because she doesn't wear a chastity belt and carry a 12 gauge when she meets her friends for a margarita.

Well, same thing with a couple of guys kissing at a bar. They are not asking for it in any way. They are not living their lives in fear, always being careful nobody sees them kissing. These men are not asking for it any more than the woman in the shirt skirt is asking to be raped.

"Asking for it" implies fault. No one is at fault for being gay, no matter where they are. A black guy goes into a KKK rally and gets beaten. He does not ask for it. Would he have been wise to avoid the situation? Yes. But he still didn't ask for it.
