    Jacoby Ellsbury 2011 = 32/105, 2013 = 7/44

Joey Votto = In his last 2 full seasons he averaged 33/108. This year 17/56

Prince Fielder has averaged 35 HRs over the last 7 years, this year = 17

    Josh Hamilton 2012 = 43/128, This year = 17/57

Albert Pujols & Ryan Howard = Broken down.

Yeah, I'm sure its just a coincidence.

Good post Rick. While we are talking conspiracy theories, what year was it that they changed the stitching on the ball to prohibit HR's. It was the mound in what 68, but do you remember they I think loosen the stitching.

All I know is the years of multiple 40HR hitters are diminishing & 50+ is a major rarity.

And what is sad, at least for the next few years, if anyone approaches 50 there will be that "what if he is a PED" attached.

Sad but true. And you can really expect it if anyone EVER approaches 60 again. FWIW: I think Davis on Baltimore is on the level. He's just a big strong kid.

Several factors with Davis or a hitter who could approach 60 in the future and could avoid any associations with PEDS.

    1) Big and Strong (shown a history of longball in his past)

    2) Line-up protection (making sure he or she(done for vette) doesn't get pitched around

    3) I feel that a lot of close games aids the power hitter because a walk could be critical in situations

    4) His splits, he hits lefty and righties both.

It's would be very difficult to argue against those numbers.

Yeah I think its pretty clear as to when the steroid era was.

Which doesn't mean it didn't begin years earlier to a lesser degree
