Eric Gomez, the vice president of Golden Boy Promotions, says that WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) has been knocking out a lot of his sparring partners at his training camp in Big Bear, California. Gomez said that Canelo has knocked out four sparring partners thus far in training camp, and supposedly these are notable sparring partners.

Gomez told Univision “He’s already sparring and knocked out four other sparring partners…everyone knows that he is very strong, and also has speed. And that will be the key to beat Mayweather…it should be more than 1.5 million pay per view buys. I hope we get to 2 million.”

When I hear that Canelo is knocking out his sparring partners it makes me think Canelo needs new sparring partners than it says about how great Canelo is as a puncher, because he’s one of those fighters that needs to hit you for a long period of time before he gets stoppages.

Canelo doesn’t knock guys out immediately. It takes him many rounds to get most of his knockouts, and he needs opponents that stand directly in front of him without moving for him to get a stoppage.

If your knocking out sparing partners its time to invest in new ones its not a good challenge if they get knocked out
