What's the point of the thread then? Corporate America being more greedy? Is this a surprise to you guys? Yet the same ones in this thread that bash unions and idolize the corporate world are up in arms about this?

I just skimmed through the thread on my paid break the first time so I missed where we covered that this is the corporate sheep being affected by this.

I distrust both entities, which is why I left corporate America. I'm much more concerned about the power of government than I am corporations, though.

The only monopoly in this country is the federal government.

The story is about UPS not being moronic in its decision making.

    Enough said.

Government might have control of the military, but corporations could just let out all the prisoners in private supermax prisons to battle them.

I've got to admit I like some things about Obamacare...it's great that someone diagnosed with a bad disease like cancer, MS, etc. when they're 25 isn't uninsurable the rest of their lives. Similarly, I'm glad lifetime limits go away for cases like that. Obviously, there are some bad aspects too and this thread is full of those.

But, the one thing I don't get, is why is a universal healthcare system so impossible? Haven't other countries instituted it pretty successfully? Is it logistically/numerically impossible? Or do people not like the idea because it goes against the appreciation of each person pulling themselves up by their own bootstraps?

Tell me that's a joke, and that you really don't believe it. If not ... wow.

Fuck, I have no idea. It's a couple people bitching and up in arms over UPS making the cuts, calling them greedy. And the other side saying it's Obamacare, since that's who UPS is choosing to blame.

At least get life insurance on it!

I kid. Actually, I didn't realize how important life insurance really is until recently. And there are all sorts of ways to structure it. Going to do something to make sure the fam is taken care of if/when something unexpected happens to me.

The government could buy and build hospitals and clinics, hire doctors and other staff, and simply give actual care to people for cost.

The VA does it. It works as well as government can do anything.

The doctors aren't incentivized by how many surgeries they do, but they get paid to do X surgeries a week. Like that.

I used to call on the VA when I was in pharma. I was never impressed, and I think veterans should receive even better care than members of Congress.

When my daughter was in there it was one big snafu after another. I finally had to personally assail the head doctor to get anything done right. They gave her wring medications, left her passed out, left her over 48 hours with no food or water... it was a hell hole.

I'm a Kaiser member. Great Doctors, great surgeons. Dr. David Parsons at Kaiser Sunnyside is not only crafty on the operating table with a knife, but a helluva a guy that I chat with via email every couple months. Genuine people like that, let alone a surgeon is so rare.

The incentives are aligned exactly the way the Democrats want them. In a few years, single payer will be the only viable option.
