I lived 3.5 yrs in Hawaii and have not been back since 2000. There are things I miss, but the cost of living and traffic have kept me from going back. You can do the same things Hawaii offers lots of other places much more inexpensively. I do not think there is a best place to live year round unless you are loaded (California). After retirement, we will probably split time here, the Midwest, and somewhere warm like Arizona.
