Many here & even myself to a much lesser degree have praised the job Girardi has done this year with all the injuries. One or two of you have even gone WAY over the top by saying he deserves consideration for MOY award. That's pushing it. With that said, watching all the head scratching questionable moves he's made over the season it may now be time to consider that maybe the Yankees are not winning because of Girardi but instead they're winning IN SPITE of Girardi. Case in point just look at today's lineup, why would you give more at bats to a 240 hitter that can't hit & has a .292 OBP? (Wells). You have no idea how many times I've gotten so pissed off at Girardi's stupidity that I actually threw my pudding at the screen. And I love my tapioca. Not to mention the bitch it is trying to get that crap out of the rug.
Rick, It seems to me that since he got Grandy, Sori, and Arod that his lineups have been all over the place waiting for Wells to do something since May. And as you know I have been critical of his use of Stewart. But even having Wells in there, why not put Nunez at the 2 hole and put Wells in the 8 hole. The fact that Mesa is not up who can steal a base, play defense, pinch run over Wells has baffled me for 3 months now. I am by no means saying that Mesa is the next Mickey Mantle, but he could be the next Mesa...
As I've mentioned before my friend, It wouldn't exactly break my heart if Girardi was let go. But we both know that's not going to happen.
...lemme get this straight, when the Yanx lose it's because of Girardi...but when they win, it's in spite of him?...OK. ...if Girardi somehow gets this team to the PS, he deserves MOY.
Seriously how many times this year have you watched a game & said. "Joe.....WTF?" I'm up to 116 times. And yes even during MANY of the Yankee wins where Joe has done something really stupid. He was lucky enough to have someone pitch a good game & had someone come up with the big hit. Those are games where the Yankees won in spite of him. And on the flip side I've seen games where the Yankees lost due to either his over managing, leaving a pitcher in to long, questionable lineups (and there's been MANY of those) or lack of basic fundermentals.
...it's a long haul, rick and I happen to be one of the ones who thinks that all things considered, Joe has done pretty well considering the injuries and roster he's had to work with this year. ...and managers are second guessed all the time. Always have been, always will be. That's a privilege we have as fans but it doesn't make us categorically right or wrong when second guessing them...it just makes us fans, not managers, just fans.
I need to clarify my stance. Overall, Girardi has done all you can ask. Like with all managers, it's easy to play Monday Morning quarterback. Maybe I don't like that he keeps running wells out there, or that he doesn't go get CC fast enough, and his lineups are his (No worse than Martin having them draw cards or numbers out of a hat). So all the bitching I have done is totally outweighed by the results and his strength. You saw some of that on display Sunday night. He was out there protecting his guy, letting the world see that this team has his back. I'm sure that wasn't easy, but in that clubhouse you got to co-exist.
what the.......... anyone of us could stand at the top of the stairs, stand there with hand to mouth, look like we have a clue and F up as much as joe has... c'mon! you give him too much credit... i like joe but he is not a manager, he is a replacement dad
...major, I read somewhere that even teams with talented players will lose 50 or so games every year no matter what the manager does, and that team will also win 50 or so games every years no matter what the manager does...it what that manager does in the remaining 50 or so games that separates the good managers from the bad ones.
' i actually threw my pudding at the screen, what???????? thats some F'ed up schitt man! u mean u put dose depends on for nothin???????????????
'it what that manager???? otey panky! 59 what the hell is up wit u my brother? u r scarin me u r human after all!
First off pecker-head, I was joking about the pudding. And what the hell is DOSE. Please Pasta your weak attempt at ebonics makes you sound even more ignorant then you already are.
you are hoping that Wells would see good pitches batting second against a lefty with Cano behind him. its not totally off base to do this when a player is struggling.
Look, Girardi took a big hit during the final 2 months of 2010, when it 'appeared' to many of us that he was not exactly going out and trying to win games by making some very curious moves. This of course was met with skepticism, as no one could fathom that a manager wouldn't be doing whatever it takes to win games. Well - as we found out courtesy of Cashman 2 years later - what we were watching down the stretch was actually a team not really going for it. For many, that acknowledgement has opened Girardi to criticism even more, seeing that everyone can go back to 2010. Now, I did see what transpired in 2010 very clearly (particularly at the end of August in a series in TB where Girardi threw out a garbage lineup on a Sunday, the day after the team had it's biggest win of the season the night before). But I have not seen anything of the sort since, and especially not this year. If Girardi has this team in playoff contention with 10 games to go - he is the Manager of the Year.
Well remember those actions in '10, also remember that last game of '11 when the Yankees blew that 7-0 lead. Living in St Pete that is a huge piece of propaganda. Ditto early '12 when Girardi had CC do that IBB and Punk Pena hit that Salami. Even the parish priest incorporated that into his Sunday Sermon. Girardi has done some stuff that blows my mind but I will credit him this year, if the Yankees make the playoffs he should be MOY. His actions remind me a bit of Grady Little getting Boston to the finish line in '03. What we'd like to see is the Girardi who made ballsy decisions in '09 when the Yanks kicked butt in the playoffs and series.
if girardi is manager of the year then i am the best poster in history of posting......... and!!!!!!!!! and!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! andddddddddddddddddddddddddd we all know that ain't true... so stop with the MOY crap... he's only as good as his players... he hasn't proved a dang thing that he's tactical, possesses any type of strategy, etc........ every comment he makes is about someone hittin the long ball.
Maybe if, if the Yanks make the playoffs and win at least one round- Girardi will get quite a few MOY votes?
