Oh wait, yeah I watched it a couple years ago when they were doing it on the Jets. Pretty cool show. I don't have HBO though.
The NFL is a joke. Just brainwashed people being told to watch the worst sport to ever be in existence.
The problem with a show like "Hard Knocks" is that if it was realistic, it would bore you into a coma. They take hundreds of hours of guys working hard - and edit it into a soap opera. "Reporters" like Quick do much the same thing. Instead of making basketball exciting, he uses selective and out-of-context anecdotes to create a story about himself.
sure there are, obviously. But when you paint with a broad brush and claim that the fans want the sort of whiny innuendo drivel that JQ provides you are completely misrepresenting a large portion of the fanbase. Not only do I avoid his typically baseless emo crap, I think it's counterproductive to my interest in seeing good hoops for reporters to be constantly digging through the personal lives (and dumpsters) of players in hopes of playing gotcha like a Jr NY press. Obviously part of being a professional athlete is being a celebrity & representing a town/market, but representing a smaller market should come with some advantages like personal space. That so many players over the years have openly hated him should clue you in to how this crap affects the team culture. His MO is so tired and predictable... build up the hopes in the young guys, tear down the late 20's vets with the tired established stories who actually give the team it's chance to win. I see the fans that you're advocating for as people who care much more about having some fresh juicy gossip to talk about at the water cooler then wanting to see the team play well and succeed. That those types think their concerns should be taken seriously by fans in my camp is what I find hilarious. Stick to the Kardashians you entitled melodrama queens... Quick belongs in the Living section STOMP
I'm really not advocating for fans as much as just explaining why Quick would write those articles (because a large portion of the public wants to read it) You make a big leap saying you think people who want to know what goes on in the locker room care more about gossip than wanting to see them play well and succeed. That is just not true in my case (can't speak for others likeyou seem to do). And I think "those fans" couldn't care less what fans in "your camp" thinks or whether they are taken seriously by fans in your camp, lol. Get off your high horse you roid filled freaks and enjoy the lighter side to sports.
I have said this before and JQuick's latest article proves it once again, these guys are great writers. It is their sports knowledge we question. Excellent read. Even for Beaver fans http://www.oregonlive.com/ducks/ind...s_football_on_anniv.html#incart_river_default
Long paragraph, short paragraph, long paragraph, single sentence for punctuation. Repeat. *yawn* John Canzano school of feel good "there's more to life than sports" articles. I like the content, I hate the same old lazy presentation.
"Formula #387: Stereotype a death in athlete's family. Center on a weepy caricature as main character." I only read the title and first couple of lines before clicking out. The constant juvenile nonsense makes me dislike Quick. If he wants to write creative fiction, he should get out of sports beat daily journalism and write features for Good Housekeeping or Redbook.
His target audience liked it. And I am pretty sure that is all that counts. I still don't think he knows shit about sports though, and as a sports writer you need to be good at both. Very few are unfortunately.
awesome example of pot calling kettle black... you're doing this in exactly the same way I am. roid filled freaks... um yeah. I'm going to continue to laugh at silly ninnies who view sports as another soap opera and think gossip driven jock sniffing is something everyone should enjoy. Being openly despised by many present and past Blazers and regularly proven to turn a blind eye to facts that discount his stories, it's amazing to me that any Blazer fan still runs up the hill when JQ cries Wolf! I'm hoping for much better... like maybe a beat reporter that players will trust and talk to so we get actual insight into the team rather then WAGs from a bitter lazy outsider with a deadline STOMP
