The Winnipeg Football Club would like to extend its deepest sympathies to the family of legendary running back Leo Lewis, who has passed away. The "Lincoln Locomotive" played with the Blue Bombers from 1955-1966, winning four Grey Cups.

"It is with deep sadness that we have to say goodbye to one of our great alumni, especially one of legendary stature like Leo Lewis," said Blue Bomber Acting CEO, Wade Miller. "I remember my dad telling me stories of playing with Leo with Blue Bombers and what an amazing running back he was. He will forever remain one of the best players to ever suit up in Blue and Gold and our hearts go out to his family during this difficult time."

Rushing for 8,861 yards during his 11-year career - all with the Blue Bombers - Lewis was a six-time Divisional All-Star and a five-time recipient of the team's Most Outstanding Player award. He was inducted into the CFL Hall of Fame in 1973 and was also named as one of Winnipeg's 20 All-Time Greatest Players that were revealed during the Club's 75th anniversary in 2005. His career rushing yardage mark of 8,861 yards was a Blue Bomber record for 41 years until surpassed by Charles Roberts.
