The Trail Blazers' training camp roster will have an Oregon connection.

The team has signed Medford native and University of Oregon alum E.J. Singler to a training camp contract, meaning the 6-foot-6 forward will take part in the Blazers’ camp as a nonroster invite.

The deal, first reported by Yahoo Sports, is nonguaranteed. Singler will be one of two nonroster invites on the Blazers’ training camp roster, joining guard Dee Bost, and both most likely will land on the Blazers’ Development League team, the Idaho Stampede, at the start of the regular season.

Guard Terrel Harris, who has been suspended five games by the NBA for violating its drug policy, is also listed on the Blazers’ roster. But a team source said Harris, who was acquired as part of the three-team trade that landed center Robin Lopez, is expected to be waived before camp opens.

Singler, who attended South Medford High School, participated in two predraft workouts for the Blazers over the summer but was not selected in the NBA Draft. Before the draft, Singler said he was determined to play professionally in some capacity and was prepared to play overseas or in the D-League if he did not hear his name called on draft night.

The D-League intrigued Singler because of its ties to the NBA and the success of some of its former players *— specifically San Antonio Spurs’ guard Danny Green, who briefly played in the league before blossoming into a starter and playoff star for the Spurs.

“There’s an option overseas, but the D-League is a great option, too,” Singler said in June. “A great example is Danny Green ... that’s a guy that has worked hard and made his way into the NBA after paying his dues in the D-League. It can be a good opportunity for me.”

Singler played four seasons at Oregon, averaging 11.7 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.8 assists last season as a senior. He also played for the Detroit Pistons in the Orlando Summer League in July, averaging 1.6 points, 1.6 assists and 12.0 minutes in five games.

Does this mean the Blazers will have a roster spot open?

Duh. I've been saying this since he was involved in that trade. Even if he makes the camp roster, he has zero chance of making it past 10/31/13.

We heard this news before. I think Olshey said it at a press conference. The last one was to introduce Mo Williams.

Thank God E J Singler is joining the team. I was concerned with our lack of guard depth

So is this the unofficial "Harris appreciation" thread?

I'm sorry to see him go.

He would have won us at least three games...

With his help we would have started the season 18-0...

I can't believe we didn't wait until he was an expiring contact...

    Something about HCP's wife...
