Well OBama is not qualified to operate anything that will show him off as an ass.
However, that seem to be no impediment to him joining the ranks.

You actually do not know what you're talking about. Constitutionally, the president has to ask Congress for declaration of war, but short of that he needs no congressional approval to carry out his commander-in-chief duties. That is what is factual, constitutionally.

Yes, he finally did the right thing. That was a turn about from his previously stated
    intention not to ask congress.

However I do appreciate you know what is correct and took the time to say it.

We both agree on this one. I still think the Al Qaeda rebels staged their own Gulf of Tonkin.

Seem like you think we have elected a wise man with unfettered powers. Perhaps you can explain how killing some Syrians and leaving Assad in power will gain any American some respect.
If there were any respect to be found in this act, wouldn't some other people be please to join in?

The War Powers Act Is Pretty Unclear About Whether Congress Gets a Vote On Syria

"A limited engagement such as the one tentatively proposed for Syria, involving no troops on the ground and relying on weapons fired from air and sea, does not appear to fulfill the vague criteria for 'hostilities' under the War Powers Resolution," says Christopher McKnight Nichols, a professor at Oregon State University and an expert on the U.S. military history. "Thus the proposed intervention in Syria does not appear to require a deadline for congressional approval or force withdrawal."

Let's just hope that Congress votes to not escalate this war started by France under Israeli influence.

You're a lawyer, aren't you? How long does a President have before they have to go to Congress? Isn't it 60 days or so?

Edit: Oops. I think Stevenson has me on ignore, so if someone else knows the answer to this question, I'd appreciate it.

    Gracias. 60 days.

Also, in your previous post, there's an interesting chicken and egg thing going on. If President Obama doesn't require Congressional approval, does he then have to define the "war" as being so limited that he has no ability to expand it to something that might be effective?

As near as I can tell, he can send in the army, navy, airforce, and marines to whatever extend he likes, but has to bring them all home within 60 days or get congress to vote to extend the conflict.

Reagan: Grenada, Lebanon, maybe other places (no vote), GHW Bush: Panama, Noriega.

Also, I'm pretty sure if NATO votes to go into some action, we're obliged by treaty, and those are constitutionally the law of the land.

Maxiep - I tried to clear this up previously - I definitely do no have you on ignore. That was my mistake - it was someone else I was thinking of. Sorry.

You are talking about the War Powers Act. It states that the President must "notify Congress within 48 hours of committing armed forces to military action and forbids armed forces from remaining for more than 60 days, with a further 30 day withdrawal period, without an authorization of the use of military force or a declaration of war."

That said, the WPA constitutionality is suspect. First, it may violate the separation of powers - the executive branch, essentially, conducts military operations. The Legislative authorizes funds and declarations of war. Second, as mentioned, the president is in charge of the military as commander in chief.

By "first of his kind" I guess you mean he's black, because the only Presidents during my lifetime who haven't acted illegally and exceeded their constitutional authority were Eisenhower and Carter. All the rest have been total puppets to the MIC.

Oh come now! Please don't blame his black half for being inept. His plan to chastise the Syrian Assad is puny, ineffectual and without realistic goals.

But I do give him credit for changing his tack and going to Congress for approval.
