Good on them for standing up for their child in the face of ignorance and prejudice.

    Are you fucking kidding me?

How is it ignorant or prejudice for a parent to want their daughter to be able to use the restroom without a boy using it at the same time?

Again, until he gets the surgery he needs, he is a boy, and should use the boys room. it should in no fucking way be the responsibility of the school or all the other parents at the school to bend over backwards for this child. If he wants to dress like a girl then fine, but he still needs to use the boys restroom. His parents need to be there for him when he gets picked on or beat up by the other kids (not saying it's right, but it will happen)

Either that or they need to pull him out of PUBLIC school and find a private school that is willing to cater to his needs

    See, that's the ignorance.

She is a girl, and was born that way.

    Yep, you missed it.

It's why she dresses as a girl, her passport says female, etc.

The other kids don't give a shit. Nobody has complained. The school is making a huge error in judgment. And the only one actually being hurt is the girl.

Why does the state issued document recognize him as a girl? because the parents say so? What does his birth certificate say?

You can't reason your way out of the truth, sorry.

She's a girl. She is what she looks like (ALL THE TIME).

Good for the school to make efforts to accomodate the child, while also recognizing the need to protect the other children.

So if I commit to dress like a girl for the rest of my life, I am a female?

Nevermind all of the natural pieces that indicate otherwise (uh, like the existence of a penis and all other male sexual organs and all other items that make me a male)?

You can't "REASON" a way out of a penis and testicles. Sorry.

    Ignorance is bliss, apparently.

It isn't about committing to wearing anything.

    It's WHY.

It's funny that people want issues to be so simple and get so upset when the world won't cooperate.

Here's a question: have you heard of AIS? (This is an intersex condition, which is in some ways different from transgenderism, but there are ways in which they coincide.) How does that affect your view of the boy/girl "dichotomy"?

Why? Why was he born with a penis and other male parts? Why does he still have a penis? I'm cool with people being what/who they want. But like his/her parents have a right to protect their child, other parents have rights to protect my child, and the school has the right to protect its' students. The school found what I'd consider a fair option for everyone.

Transgender first-grader Coy Mathis wins civil rights case in Colorado

DENVER — The Colorado Civil Rights Division ruled in favor of a transgender first-grader who was blocked from using the girls’ bathroom at her elementary school, the The Transgender Legal Defense & Education Fund announced Sunday.

Coy Mathis, 6, was the victim of discrimination when Eagleside Elementary School in Fountain refused to let her use the girl’s restroom, the ruling finds.

In issuing its decision, the state’s rights division said keeping the ban in place “creates an environment that is objectively and subjectively hostile, intimidating or offensive.”

Nobody is complaining about the girl using the girl's bathroom. Transgender girls have been using girls bathrooms for decades and it's no big deal.

There's nothing to protect anyone from, other than really making this girl feel bad.

Cool. We'll have to agree to disagree. Or at least I agree to disagree.

I had my bell rung during a football practice my junior year. On my way to get checked out, I was so loopy I walked into the girls' locker room where the soccer team and cheerleaders had finished up and were getting dressed/showering.

There were the usual screams and curses by the girls as they rushed to cover up. I simply stood dumbfounded in the middle of the room asking what they were doing in the men's locker room.

One of my friends grabbed my arm and led me out of the locker room yelling at me the entire time. I kept looking at her curiously. She realized something wasn't right with me, so she went down to get one of my coaches. They then took me into the boys locker room and the training room to get checked out. I was later diagnosed with a concussion.

To this day, no matter how many apologies I give or no matter how many times I tell the story, almost no one believes me that I didn't walk into the girls' locker room intentionally.
