Thank god, I thought we signed Charlie Hough, which still would have been an improvement even though Hough is like 65
There's just zero justification to run Hughes out there. Not to mention you would rather the lefty against the Red Sox. Good luck in your future endeavors Phil.
Huff is going to get rocked, he's no better than Hughes. But I suppose it's worth a shot, too bad the 6th, 7th and 8th starters are all injured, what a disaster this season is.
Only took like what?...4 years for them to finally figure out what i have been saying forever. Hughes simply is NOT a good starting pitcher and really never hasd been.
Rusty it's comments like this that make me wonder if you even follow the game. I'm not trying to be mean but seriously, "NO BETTER THEN HUGHES?" Since becoming a Yankee he's pitched 16 innings & has given up 2 earned runs. That's an era of 1.13 In his last outing Sunday he went 5 2/3rds & allowed 1 run. The last time before that when he went 5 innings he gave up 1 hit & no runs. No better then Hughes. You've got to start following the game a little closer. Now granted he MAY very well get lit up but so far I like what I've seen from this kid.
16 IP, wow, you're right, after the previous 300 innings he's pitched to a 5+ ERA I should have looked at these 16 innings.... And I'm not following the game?
I'd rather throw a lefty who has been pitching well against the Red Sox over a guy you pretty much know is going to get rocked.
We can at least hope Huff will pitch well, even if its just an unfamiliarity from the Sox end. We pretty much KNOW Hughes is getting lit up. This was a no brainer move. Really a move that is a few starts too late IMO.
I agree it's the right move, it's been a move needed since June, but forgive me if I'm not too confident in Huff, he's been terrible his entire career, that's why he became a Yankee not long ago. But hope I'm wrong and if there's one thing to lay some hope on it's that Girardi and co. do have some success getting something out of nothing, and they're good with pitchers so let's go Huff.
In 3 of the 4 years he pitched with the Indians the team averaged around 95 loses a year. Even a very good pitcher would look like shit on such teams. Now don't get me wrong I'm not saying he's the second coming of Whitey Ford. But so far with the Yankees & getting the opportunity to pitch with some talent behind him, he's doing okay. Look at it this way Rusty, he can't do any worse then Hughes.
Old Carl Perkins Tune: All those teams are boppin' Phil Hughes, it must be going around, All those teams are boppin' Phil Hughes, it must be going around, Well Phil the fans hate you, and happy that you're bull pen bound.
I don't know anything about Huff. But I can say this. Hughes is fucking terrible! He has no heart what so ever and anything really is an upgrade to him. I wanted him to succeed and rooted him on. But he is just bad! And I actually think he is a good reliever. He goes out there and throws as hard as he can for an inning and it actually worked before. Let's hope that happens again. But him being a starter is beyond atrocious! And there can't seriously be a team out there that is going to give him a bunch of money. So he better jump on the first offer he gets.
Hey ORLAND I've got an APB out for your missing "O" I've contacted all my old buddies, Magnum, Perry Mason, Rockford, Kojak, Columbo, Mannix & even that old bastard Barnaby Jones. If its out there, the'll find it.
Ha Ha Ha!!!! Thank you Rick! Not sure what I did with that O. I logged on the first time and was sitting there thinking. "What am I doing wrong? Why can't I log in" Then I noticed I forgot the O. Let me know if you find it.
