http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-s...o-mars-perform-super-bowl-183507191--nfl.html Given that the main theme of the Super Bowl this season will be its New York/New Jersey location, it seemed the NFL would stick with the theme and pick a halftime act from the area (Jay Z? Bon Jovi? Bruce Springsteen again?). That's what makes the pick of Bruno Mars a bit random. [Play fantasy football on the go: Live/mock drafts, real-time scoring and more on iPhone, iPad and Android] Mars will be the halftime act of this season's Super Bowl, the Associated Press reported, citing anonymous sources. An official announcement is supposed to happen in Times Square on Sunday. Mars is a fine choice, as a Grammy winner and one of the best-selling artists of the last few years. Just a little out of the blue for the NFL, which isn't bad either. After the Janet Jackson "wardrobe malfunction" the NFL went through a phase of booking very established and mostly safe acts. Mars is young, at 27, and his debut album was just 2010. He isn't quite at the level of fame as Madonna or Beyonce, the Super Bowl's last two halftime acts, but he has plenty of hits – "Grenade," "Just the Way You Are," "Locked Out of Heaven," to name a few. He also has no direct and obvious New York ties (he's from Hawaii), but the NFL deserves some credit for being a bit unpredictable with its pick.
I can only speak for myself, but the Super Bowl halftime show is when I have my mid-game dump planned. Who performs? I don't care.
I don't know why they don't get somebody like Neil Young and Pearl Jam. Now that would be something to see.. Now this would be good!!
I'd still be taking a shit, the only difference is I wouldn't be doing it on stage, just like whoever agrees to do the SB halftime show.
The halftime show is for the non-sports viewer. They get shit tons of money from advertising every year because they have something for everyone. Football, funny commercials and a sparkly halftime show. I watch the football game, and the next day I'll watch the best commercials or costume malfunction it they generate enough buzz.
