Young, Schierholtz, McCann. None are big ticket guys. Use the pieces you have to get 2 of the 3 and you will help this team this year. You don't have to mortgage the future for these guys but may have to give up some decent pieces. OR, Cashman can sit on his hands for a change instead of getting fisted.
Clean house down on farm..scouts and player development "coaches"...especially those overseeing the young pitchers. The Yankee org's inability to produce a single young pitcher good enough to consistently pitch near the top of the rotation since Andy Pettitte is absolutely scandalous. Horrendous !
Completely agree & its not just the pitching. We haven't seen a good position player since Cano in 2001. So complete player development has been embarrassing.
Things the Yankee ownership needs to do this offseason (in no particular order): SELL THE TEAM to someone who actually gives a damn, fire Cashman and get someone who can actually be a legitimate GM, get someone who can develop the farm system by working with the new afore mentioned GM, DO NOT RESIGN Joba or Hughes at ANY cost… in fact, I would DFA both of them now, DFA Wells, let Cano walk… He isn’t worth it no matter how you slice it…, Do not spend any significant kind of money on any player… bring Gary Sanchez up to start next season, If you don’t bring up Sanchez, get someone who can actually play catcher, Resign Robertson, Gardner, and Nova, & get a new manager… Girardi has had some real head scratching moves as manager this year…
If I may add, Also do not resign Granderson. Maybe give an offer to FA Ellsbury. and speaking of FAs I'd also like to see the Yankees make a play for Kendry Morales.
I played the current Yankee manager this morning. Slept late, played some games on my iPad, got a breakfast sandwich and am thinking about napping. Take away my motivating myself to drive to a deli and my AM hours are probably right on par with Cashman's typical morning.
You couldn't just overlook a simple error could you? The thread title should have led on to the direction of mu role playing. I'm thinking about lunch now, so I think I'm right on par with Cashman so far. I guess I really shouldn't have such a problem with the current GM - he did pick up Reynolds and Huff.
McCann, Ellsbury, Tanaka, were good additions. Of course no unproven Japanese League pitcher (unproven in US-MLB) is worth a fraction of the money he's getting. I have a real bad feeling after watching Tanaka pitch today. He is conditioned well already, it appears. However, he's also used to only pitching every 7th day. I won't give him his kudos, until the season is over. Already throwing 93 mph, looks impressive for Spring Training (ST). I cannot foresee Tankaka being effective if at all, after the All Star Break. Over 50 yrs. of watching MLB, as a Fan-atic, Tanaka will have a rubber arm by July, if not then, no doubt by Sept. (I'd love to be proven wrong tho')...!!! I don't think the Steinbrenner boys have a 1/2 brain between the two of them...!!! What are they thinking by continuing to allow a old team (age wise) to get even older. Where is the fresh blood of top prospects. Keep in mind less than 25 percent of top prospects go on to have a lucrative long career, let alone very few go on to dominate the game, or become consistent All Star material. The boys biggest mistake IMHO, was placing to much focus and attention on Tanaka, Ellsbury, Beltran & McCann signings, and letting Cano walk. Cano said as much, "they (yanks) did not make me feel wanted, they did nothing to make me feel at home". The Boys lack of true natural owner experience, shows worse than King George's flat years. Heck if George did not capture headlines with his trades, or big Free Agent signings, he would create his own news, ala the Elevator fist fight, not to mention a life of other OT news stories. This being said, Beltran's signing was a big mistake, (again, I'd love to be proven wrong). Gardner is necessary along with Ellsbury for speed on the bases, and Outfield defense. Ichiro never ceases to amaze me, tho' he's getting oooold. Overall the team is to old, with a lack of top quality prospects. I remember to well, how many Yankee fans & posters thought Hughes was the 2nd coming of Roger Clemens. NOT!!! Thank God, Phis is gone, he should of been traded for true talent by his 3rd year. Overall, with the Boys at the helm, I cannot foresee them ever putting together a Classic Great Yankees Team, like their Dad, the King, did consistently, over and over. Though the King did have more than a few flat, off years, when his team was the AL East Cellar Dweller. If the Boys think Big Free Agent Signings are the answer or key to another Yankee World Series Pennant, then they learned nothing from Dad, especially in his last ten years, (heck I'd be happy with a wild card at this point). King George settled down once Torre was aboard. I give Joe as much credit for turning a new chapter in King George's book of life, and Yankee Lore, by not firing his managers when they weren't the problem. Ex: Martin, Lemon, Pinella, Showalter, ______________,_________. (add other non-justified fired manager's names in blanks)
Disclaimer to my previous post: Even King George had his down years, from 88-94. Gardner was way overpaid. Compare Brett's play and contract with Mike Trout, who would you rather have. A no brainer! I would slow the big Free Agent signings down, unless it is to pursue young key proven players: To name but a few-Trout, Jose Fernandez, Corbin, Goldschmidt, Harper, Strasburg(?), Puig, so on and on. Not that these young studs can ever be pried from their respective teams. Yet, if I were Cashman or the boys, I'd be looking long and hard, at what it takes to obtain their contracts. How deep would the Yanks have to go to obtain in trades, these kids? It could be worth the cost and effort. If they're paying Gardner 12+ million a year, I'm sure the others could be obtained for the same or less. (If their teams could ever pry their death grips from these studs, big IF).
Nice to see you found us Rob. I stopped over on the reddit board yesterday & I thought the board took the day off. NO ONE posted for many hours. Don't be a stranger. This board is open & active 24/7. We never close.
Thanks Rick...! I'm thrilled as well to of found you all. Nothing like returning to the one thing I wake up for every morning, ie. living on a good Yankees Message board. Good to see you all, its been so long, to long. Like I once said, longtime friends are getting harder to find with each passing year. We're dang near dinosaurs these days. Tho' dinosaurs make good Historians.....!! Who ever can live without baseball, & Yankee, MLB discussion, is not living. PM coming your way-Rick.
When we first moved over here I tried to bring as many of the ESPN crew with us. Many are here & many are on reddit. That's okay the town is big enough for both of us. I just find this board a little easier to move around. So if you know any lost baseball souls, send them this way. Like I said, It's the board that never sleeps. My very best to Kim.
