Wow! Look how times have changed in the money department! Top 10 from the 89-90 season and the 13-14 season! And the font!
The # 2 player player on the current list makes as much as 9 of the top 10 players in 89-90 (I took out John Contract so the #'s match up better).
Man I remember how that Koncack contract freaked everybody out! And remember Isiah Thomas' what was it......10 year/10 million? People were going nuts!
The old list has 3, the new list has 2. It has been generally agreed that Konkak shouldn't be on the list in which case the old and new lists have the same number. Yes, I consider Pau and Dirk "white".
Because of the salary cap, Kobe is only now catching up with what Jordan was paid that one year ($30M) What year was that? And how much would it be in today's money?
I think the issue here is that Latins technically were Italians (or at least, resided in Italy) and because we're a very US Centric culture (more so, American Continent) we seem to think Spanish = Mexican and Mexican = Spanish. Spain and France are neighbors. Are French people not considered "white"?
Ya, it's weird. French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian should all be considered white right? On all my records, my mom had me down as hispanic. Couldn't argue with her, Im half Mexican, half Cracka'.
I actually run into people pretty frequently that think Italian isn't white but its own thing. To them I usually ask if Greeks are white or are they their own thing or are they and Italians one thing. The response varies. A lot of people think this changes over time. Back in the day Italians (and many European immigrant groups) were looked down upon by whites/anglos, now they're a part of the club. A of of people classify Spanish as "Latinos". I know race is all socially constructed and not nearly as cut and dry as we make it out to be, but its interesting to hear people's ideas and their reasoning. Usually there's an agenda LOL.
