Jose Fernandez was in no mood to celebrate when his marvelous rookie season ended with a victory Wednesday. Instead, he trudged through a quiet stadium hallway to seek out the Atlanta Braves so he could apologize for his behavior. Fernandez pitched seven innings and hit his first major-league homer to help the Marlins to a 5-2 win. But he drew a rebuke from his manager for showboating, and engaged in a standoff with the Braves that cleared both benches and bullpens.
