Dillashaw vs. Assunção is being talked about as a possible title eliminator.

I've been seeing ads for UFC 166 but not for this event. Maia could get a title shot win a win over Shields. Maldonado vs. Beltran has FOTY potential.

Well that was... a fight?... and it's over... so let us never speak of it again.

Re: UFC Fight Night 29: Maia vs. Shields (Oct/9)

Chris Cariaso had a good performance. Ref was too quick to stop the fight.

Yan Cabral came up against a defensive wall in David Mitchell but still looked pretty good in his debut.

Araujo/Alcantara not one for the ages but Araujo was better conditioned. Conditioning a major theme tonight.

Assuncao/Dillashaw was very close. One of those rare occasions where a draw would've suited the fight fine. Hurts Dillashaw who was working his way up.

Palhares held a submission too long? Almost impossible to imagine. I wonder what people would do if he hit his opponent after the bell every fight? I cringed when I saw that the smallest referee on the card was going to be involved in this fight. You need someone who will rip Palhares off his opponent.

Maldonado/Beltran was not the epic slugfest people were hoping for but it was entertaining.

Thiago "Spare Tire" Silva didn't look like himself in there tonight. Hopefully it is the case of a training camp injury and not him... lacking a certain element. Matt Hamill didn't look like a guy who should be fighting in the UFC but dude can take a shot and a bunch of leg kicks. Both guys were exhausted by the third round, Hamill more so.

DHK's knockout win over Silva might not be upset of the year but that was a massive comeback. He was getting worked pretty good in that second round. He fought like a wildman tonight.

Shields/Maia cancelled each other out everywhere and fought a sloppy, slow war of attrition. Both were gassed mid-way through the fight. Not much in the way of a grappling battle except for a couple of Shield's reversals. There goes another WW contender.

Palhares will not face disciplinary action from the AC in Brazil but will from the UFC, starting with being disqualified for submission of the night (which is essentially a whopping $50,000 fine). This shit has to stop. He knows better. Maybe he's just an imbecile?

$50,000 going out to DHK and Assuncao/Dillashaw for knockout of the night and fight of the night, respectively.

I think that's clear. And he really should be cut for a second offense IMO. Holding limb-shattering subs too long is nothing to fuck around with.
