Isn't that what team names are for? Obviously the teams that moved are out of whack, but the Lakers were appropriate in Minnesota. The Jazz were appropriate in New Orleans. The Spurs are appropriate in San Antonio, and so on.

What is appropriate here, if not something about the weather or history of Oregon?

    Because it's bush league.

Team names are supposed to either be aggressive, or culturally relevant or historically significant. But "Lumberjacks" just makes people think of rednecks or toothless hill billies or something that was true about Oregon a long time ago.

I just think that if we're going to get an NHL team name, it shouldn't be some outdated stereotype of the region, or something that is related to the weather.

Stick with names related to sports history, or animals of some sort. Buckaroos, Coho, Chinook...or I know..the Hazelnuts! (ok, one of these wasn't serious).

I would love playoff baseball more if I didn't have to listen to Joe Buck and Tim McCarver

I'll believe it when I see it happen. I've heard this story to many times and if Paul Allen really wanted NHL in Portland we would have had a team years ago.

How about feeding off the Blazer and color theme.

    Portland Inferno.

    Or

    How about Portland Ice?

Yeah I do actually like that one. They could get Oregon Steel Mills to be a big sponsor and do something with a steel fish head helmet.
