Mess being realistic I think we're looking at maybe 8-4. they're just not good enough or deep enough to do any better. And 87 wins are just not going to make it.
I agree with you. They just put themselves too far behind with several teams involved. Granted teams have collapsed but with Texas, Tampa, Cleveland, Baltimore and KC all in the mix it's just too much.
They need to go 10-2. 8-4 won't get it done in my opinion. There is just no room for error at this point. Emotionally, every time I have counted these guys out, they have responded. But I feel this team is done emotionally, all the injuries, the people in and out of a lineup. Trying to make a WC Playoff with Stewart as your catcher and Ichiro as your right fielder and Vernon Wells as your DH, and CC as your "Ace" and Kuroda on fumes, and the bullpen in flames, is just to much. In many ways, this team of misfits have accomplished more this year than some of the powerhouse teams of the past have. They have overachieved, time to celebrate the effort, and at the same time start mourning the demise that the FO has left the fans with.
Eighty Seven wins got the division in '00 but this is '13. Even if they make it I'd say a one game playoff would find their chances slim to none.
Of course being a die hard Yankee fan I'll watch the remaining 12 games BUT.......if I'm being completely honest, I'm really not expecting much. Earlier in the season I predicted 86-76 & it seems to be heading that way.
No how much we all bark we are going to either ride the tide or go down with the ship, that's what fans do up to this point.
What it comes down to is it's over.... I'm a never say die fan but after that shellacking by Boston I have a hard time believing anyone in that clubhouse has any fight left to win these games, I think the team is coming out flat from here on and booking tee times.
