Was on MLB Now with Kenney and his turtle Harold Reynolds. Stated that this team was about 6th best in the AL in current form. Stated that next year is not promising with huge personnel losses, a diminishing returning Tex & CC. Went on to say however that they had the same concerns about Boston last year but the Red Sox made some nice trades and free agent pickups. The Yankees say they wnt to get below 189 but there is a potential Cano signing. Could be very interesting.
Boston is a terrible example. Unless the yankees plan to overhaul the front office with a new GM, get a new manager and talk some team into taking A-rod, Tex and CC off their hands. Oh, and Boston has a little something called a farm system. Helps.
True - the Red Sox "off-season" overhaul was largely made possible by them being realistic about their chances last season when they seized the opportunity to unload all of those high-$$$ contacts to create financial flexibility. Once the slate was clean - they focused on smart, short-term, and more reasonable deals (Napoli, their closer), took advantage of their farm system, and locked in Pedroia early before it became a story.
