PapaG was banned tonight

Chiming in on the crandc vs PapaG distinction:

I have to agree that crandc's personal insults seem to go unedited. While some people will make the case that that is double standard and it's a liberal conspiracy to keep everyone PC and THANKS OBAMA, etc, I think it's just the pragmatic issue of having one OT mod and a whole lot of text to go through.

PapaG's personal insults are laid bare for all to see, while crandc's are usually buried in a wall of text that most people skim over and miss.

It was mean of me to say what I did in the Private Message, but I felt he had crossed the line with his insults in the forum. But I would not attack someones kids. That's despicable. And to be fair, he did not accuse me of that until he had already been banned. He signed back in with a new name papag2 and posted that, I think as a way to get at me. He was just in full melt down. And I got pretty pissed by the lie, but now, a day later, I understand he was just blowing his top. I would be fine, personally, if after a month minimum, he was allowed to join back. But I would expect him to completely follow the rules with me, or even just ignore me altogether.

 

How did he attack your kids? I never read anything publicly that supports that accusation.

He said I said is kids should suffer. I never even mentioned his kids, I never mentioned him as a father, I never mentioned anything remotely on that topic. I posted a bit back word for word, every single PM I sent him.




And to DLJ, you are not allowed to insult in a thread, I sent papag one single insulting PM, as in Private Message. That is permitted. You may insult me in a PM. I have sent exactly 1 insulting PM ever, and that was the one that papag posted.

 

He had publicly just insulted me, called me a bigot, a racist, said I hate people who believe in god and said I was corrupting my child. My PM was a response.

 

Oh I thought you accused him of trashing your kids. I could have sworn you said that on the atheist church thread or something.

Whatever man, I'm just a little pissed papa is banned. I liked his take on things. I know he rubbed a lot of people wrong, fuck we had some battles a year or two ago; but I never thought it was over the top.

I understand he broke the rules. Just don't like people being banned.

 

Hmmm ... Speaking as somebody who has occasionally found himself arguing from the minority position, I can honestly say I've never felt like there has been an administrative agenda to silence the board's iconoclasts; more often the masses just tend to "shout" these opinions down.

As for the people that have been banned, I don't think it's any great secret that all had well documented outbursts of anti-social behavior and "excess" personal attacks - posting habits that were frequently nothing but disruptive and usually in bad faith. Personally I've never called for anybody to be banned, but the few that have been kicked out probably earned it after being given multiple warnings to rein themselves in.

I do agree that there is sort of a "hive mind" mentality around here at times that sees counterpoints and opposite views as an "evil" that must be stamped out, but I just don't see that as the situation in this case.

 

So?

If you don't like personal attacks, it isn't going to fix it by attacking them back.

If you can't refrain from personal attacks, why do you think others should? You could have just ignored it and put him on ignore.

 

Personally, I wish you'd all frickin' leave so I can have this place to myself.

That was edited in one of the earliest posts, I don't recall the exact wording, it was not a PM that I can go back to. He said I was prosthelytizing atheism to my kids and teaching them to hate people who believe in god. Even though 1) i don't have kids, 2) what he was referring to was the exact opposite, my nephew came out as atheist and was very anti-religion, and I was talking with him about how to accept and appreciate the good things about Judaism specifically and encourage him to be more open to other peoples views.

So, That's what that other part was from.

 

First, I was pissed and wrong.

Second, one is permitted, the other one is not.

Third, I never called for his banning until after he was banned and then started lying about me.
