The criminal complaint indicates that the servers have been imaged since mid-2012, they have access to all site communications (PMs etc.), and the only way to take down a .onion site other than by compromising the private key associated with it is by seizing the server, right now it seems that that is now the case. This will be my final post on these forums and I needed to say what an honor and a privilege it has been to serve the SR community. My best advise right now is to consider the worst case scenario and plan accordingly. I now need to go and take care of my affairs, I wish I could tell you more but I only know as much as I have posted here. This is a terrible end to a beautiful thing, please try to remember what we were doing here, this goes so far beyond just scoring drugs on the internet, this is SO much more important than just that so in the coming days, weeks and months when this is discussed and analyzed it will be easy to lose sight of what we were doing, please hold on to the core reasons that brought us here and what made this place unique and such an incredibly important force for positive change in the world. I completely disagree. With the Silk Road, people were able to safely buy drugs (no shady drug dealers) and know exactly what they were buying. This puts more people out on the streets buying and selling drugs, which directly leads to more crimes and deaths.
Apparently he's the 3rd Dread Pirate Roberts. The first one sold it to the 2nd one and the 2nd sold it to the guy who got arrested. The other two each made millions and are living safely overseas. The 3rd guy got arrested because he was asking for technical advice for the site in his real name.
When there are good people buying; absolutely correct. The unfortunate situation is many used Silk Road to buy shitty 25nbome and sell it as LSD in clubs and events. That is harmful to those that aren't in the know.
The first two DRPs don't have anything to do with the site anymore. If it were one of them who were arrested the site wouldn't have been shut down and the bitcoins seized by the feds.
Well that problem would be solved just by everyone being in the know, which is not inconceivable. People selling knockoffs as the real deal happens no matter what, I just think silk road helped the problem.
