Last Saturday I lost electricity for about 10 hours, not that you need anything for ten hours, but I felt good that I had prepared earlier this year for a small emergency. I know there are Preppers, that's not me, but I set aside a small kit to get me through a week if there were ever a bad earthquake or some other incident that cut me off from regular well-functioning modern society. This is what I have prepared and have set aside in my emergency closet: 15,000 calories of canned goods. Red Cross Emergency medical kit Red Cross hand powered radio, shortwave, flashlight and lamp all in one. 6 of those camping size containers of propane acid camp stove, lighters and matches. Also a camping stove. 5 one gallon jugs of water. 1 prescription of Cipro antibiotics Packed bag with Change of clothes and rain gear, hat gloves (dopp kit and first aid kit also in bag) $250 Several flashlights and batteries Multi tool, duct tape, super glue Instant coffee and vodka Compared to a lot of people, it's not a lot, no weapon for example, but that's what I have set aside. Anyone else have provisions ready in case of emergency?
Good on you Further! Prior proper planning prevent piss poor performance. My equipment is used quite often, you can expect to need it every winter. 5000 Watt Genset. to make sure I can pump water out of my well, keep the freeze good, and run the electric stove although I can cook on the wood heater. 6 weeks supply of food. I could never forgive myself if the young grandsons were to begin to go hungry More than enough weapons and ammo to for protection, offence if required. BTW those LED lamps available today are really cool (truly) and will give you light for many hours.
I've set aside 3 cartons of cigarettes. Those smokers are going to get desperate when they can't get there smokes, and I'll just trade them cigarettes for the things I need.
You just posted the most common answer when asked about disaster preparedness. Congrats! What happens when your neighbors are better armed and better trained with their weapon?
That's not good... they probably think you'll be a pushover, so your whole neighborhood will be coming to get your stuff first
In the case of some total breakdown of society, never to return, sure that could be an answer. But it does shit for a severe earthquake or some other temporary societal pause, where you might be stranded for five days, but then society is restored and you are put behind bars.
If it looks like the disaster will end I'll just turn you into stew meat and have a neighborhood feed. My garden can always use a little more bone meal so it's not like there would be much evidence.
We have about 15 days worth of food and store water for disaster. We have other shit in place if there is some national wide disaster. Either way; we are in pretty good shape
No I have a 15 day package for supply for quick relief. We have water making equipment and aquaponics to feed us perpetually. We are getting chickens and possibly rabbits for even more food.
