I was thinking about it this AM, and honestly Kreider having no impact last season, and now failing to make the team out of camp this season is really hurting us. Most of us expected/hoped for 15-20 goals +/- over 82 games. Him not having any impact really crushes us. Look at our top 7 forwards. Nash, Richards, Stepan, Cally, Brassard, Hags, and I'll add Puliot in as the 7th guy. There is not enough scoring there to really win IMO. Double so when Pyatt and Boyle are your 8th or 9th forwards, or best case are in your top 10. Now I am not even knocking Kreider really. He is young, and let's hope at some point he gets it, so this isn't a let's rip Kreider thread from me. I am simply honestly stating the way it is based on our team makeup. If Kreider isn't a clear top 9 forward who scores 15-20 goals or so, I think we are in big trouble. The makeup of this team dictates that we need Kreider to be a decent top 9 forward for us to really have a shot IMO. Maybe he will get there at some point this season and maybe not, but the bottom line to me is we need him. I just see no way around it given the current makeup of this team.
Which is why i was so adamant that we needed to get a big scorer this offseason and people like you (and others) kept penciling Kreider in as a top-6 forward with expected output when his pro career has been so mediocre. "we just need a depth scorer, 20gls or so" remember?
Not getting into with you 31, have no desire to really. But I always said where is this stud we were getting? How were we paying him? And I still don't think we need another stud. I still say we need another solid goal scorer. A 20 or so goal guy to go with Kreider scoring 15 or so. A stud would be nice, but they don't grow on trees. You do make me laugh though. You are one of those guys that everyone wants to beat the sh*t out of. The kind of guy that says remember when you said this or when you said that. Always like to point out times when you feel you were right, but never seem to point out the numerous times you were wrong. And always in a rude in your face way. Funny stuff. It is what makes you the person you are though. So good for you man. Keep being you.
when there's a will, there's a way. I would have liked to give Ryan a shot. 30gl scorer, on the cheap side (compared to today's atrocities), young. Players get traded that you didn't think were available. Seguin got traded to Dallas and i don't see many people saw it coming. Not saying we should have traded for Seguin, just pointing out that players we may consider "unavailable" can be and if Sather really wanted, he could have gone and gotten a top scorer for this team. And i'm still not convinced on the Gabby trade. If Moore becomes a Top-4 offensive force dman, then we make out very well but if he's just another regular on the roster i much rather have Gabby. He would help this team a lot this year and on a more open system he would have been a great fit.
I have been saying for 3 years we should have traded some of this youth for proven players. The issue to me is the fan base of this team has kind of accepted things and simply doesn't hold the team accountable. We see it in here all the time as well. Next year. Always next year. Next year never comes. Now we are wasting one of the best goalies in the league career. It is sad really. I guess I can't blame the fans though when we have a GM here for 15 years despite not 1 SCF and only 1 ECF trip even. So the fans just accept it, continue to show up, continue to make excuses, continue to say next year, or we have a 7 year window. Many live in fantasy land IMO. The debates I had in here with so many of the guys about trade Kreider. Or trade DZ (something I have been pushing for 3 years now). It is real funny stuff. As we see Kredier unable to make the team. As we see DZ pretty much be the same player for the past few seasons. The list goes on. McIlrath is the guy now. Maybe he will be NHL ready in 2016. I am not giving up on the kid, but at this point he is no given. And in hindsight a bad pick considering where we are now, and how highly he was taken. As for the Gabby deal, I hear you, but I almost think we had to make that trade. We had zero depth. We needed to add some back. Moore has top 4 dman potential (and should make DZ trade bait for a scorer). Brassard is a nice # 2 C that can score 55-60 points IMO. And Dorsett is a nice 4th line grit player. The kind of player good teams usually need. So I don't mind the Gabby deal. But big picture we are where we are. Still lack socring. So that is a huge issue.
What pisses me off is these guys go down to Hartford and start scoring then come back and look like they have no idea what they're doing. I thought at least this year he'd stick for good and his physical gifts would produce at least 15-20 goals, which hurts for a lineup needing size and speed. Sometimes I wonder if he wants to be in NY or is doing his best to get traded.
wait, is the Hartford team back to being the Wolfpack? what happened to the Whale? http://www.hartfordwolfpack.com/
If we want Gaborik back so bad sign him on July 1, he is a UFA. That deal was a no brainer. I would rather have Brassard and Moore right now and I love Gabby. This team needs secondary scoring. It really shouldnt be that hard to get. You need 3 lines that can score and the problem even with a healthy Hags and Cally we dont have that Agree MDZ needs to go for scoring. We needed to do it last year, even moreso now
Dis, sure, Gabby can be signed as a UFA, but that means we have another season "lost" because we didn't have the horses to compete for a SC. I like Brassard as well, but there are 50+ players who put up 60pts in the last full season we had ('11-'12) while there were only 4 who scored 40+ gls. I think it's easier to fill his spot as 2nd line C than to fill Gabby's 40+ gls. Moore, as i've said, is the wild card. He becomes a force to be reckoned with then no problem, but for this year i think Gabby would give us a better chance to go deeper in the playoffs, simply because teams have to ask themselves "do i put my best D-men pair against Nash or Gabby?", leaving the other going up against lesser defensemen. Right now the coach can just focus on shutting down Nash because there's no one else on the other lines close to being a difference maker.
We wouldn't have been able to afford Gabby this season anyway and balanced out the team. So I am not sure we had any real choice but to deal him and get back the depth we needed badly. I guess you could say keep him, buy out Richards, and then add depth during this past summer. But would we have been able to afford the depth in that case? Gabby makes 800 K more than Richards. And to sign guys making less than 2 mill for depth is not easy when you have no depth at all and need to fill like 3 or 4 spots. Not sure we had any real choice on Gabby.
Krieder could be another Sather bust. A kid with a ton of talent and no on ice hockey sense. Krieder isn't killing the Rangers. Sather more likely is. I just hope Krieder gets his act together before we find him in another uniform........ and being a success.
kreider still has Torts in his head, him not showing up is the end result from Torts effin with him...mental damage.....torts isnt in Hartford he knows how to play there. Once he learns/trust AV he'll take off hopefully sooner than later
Krieder definitely squandered a chance to make the roster out of camp. Honestly i think its better to have the kids in the minors for a little seasoning and a little chemistry building with each other, with so many guys on the main roster with contracts coming up next year its good for these kids to get 18+ minutes a game in the minors as apposed to 10-12 in the majors, so they are ready more then ready either later this season or next. I know we all want these kids to be on the roster without a doubt, but with players like pyatt and boyle on the squad still, as useless as they are may better in the long run(chuck next year). with this team changing styles with a new coach and needing to adjust, which they will, even though it isnt going to matter this teams bottom lines just aren't built for this coaches style of play. i would prefer him to play younger guys, but is it worth it at 10minutes a game?
If everything pans out, Hartford is Sather's future. Team will be much better than the Rangers. And that's good for the Rangers' future. Amen.
Kreider I don't think will be down that long as just too much talent to be in ct. and the light bulb eventually goes off. Doesn't it? I think lindberg and other reinforcements will be up in the not too distant future. Perhaps guys like boyle and piatt and even zucc who has a nice game but is just too god damn small when we get to the playoff pounding are being used a little more to enhance some draft picks or player in a future trade.
