Toronto coach Randy Carlyle knows the Maple Leafs' 3-0 record is a lot prettier than their play. "Coaches aren't here to cut up wins. Let's not over-analyze," Carlyle said Saturday night after a 5-4 shootout victory over Ottawa in the Maple Leafs' home opener. "We didn't play to the level we're capable of playing. It was more a hockey game, I think, we played in parts and we were sloppy throughout it but we still found a way to get two points." See more- http://scores.espn.go.com/nhl/recap?gameId=400484265
Oh, absolutely, there is no doubt about that. Brian Burke comes along and assembles a playoff team that can be serious contenders for about 8 years. I definitely see some aspects of the Wings when I think about the Leafs now. A solid core, not a perfect goal-tending situation but one that gets by, a solid fan base (when they win, which they will), etc.
