why???????????? _______________________ I just think when they get Jeter, Arod and Grandy back and "rolling" again....along with Soriano they simply have a BETTER team than the A's, O's, Cleve or Tampa. I also believe Pettitte and CC will pitch better down the stretch than they have during July and most of August. I also take into consideration the bench being better and deeper with Nunez,Romine (swinging the bat much better now) and Reynolds/Overbay being a significant improvement over the slop which was being used for most of the first few months of the season. I have my doubts about them catching Tampa Bay...and the A's do have a soft Sept schedule but like I said...I still believe with their team mostly intact the Yankees are better than those teams and I believe it's very possible for them to be approx four or five games better than the A's down the stretch. We'll see.
I said "No" before the season began, before the mass injuries, before the brothers Steinbrenner declared spending slowdown... today, I still say "NO!"
Gotta say. The fact we are still in the hunt for a wildcard spot is fucking incredible!!! With all the injuries and some of our players just flat out sucking ass is just incredible that we even have a winning record! I know everyone here pretty much hates Girardi. But the dude has to be considered one of the top picks for Manager of the year for sure!
agreed... I will say though... that if they some how do make it... they aren't going far... and to be honest... if you don't win it all... what's the point?
...considering that most people picked this team to be a sub-.500 team before the season even began, I don't think they have to go far in the PS, if they make it, to be considered successful. They have already exceeded most people's expectations and have overcome a ridiculous amount of calamitous injuries. ...I mean, if a fanbase has no reason for legitimate expectations before the season began and that team actually ends up over-achieving, how can those same fans be disappointed in what the team accomplished, against all odds? ...if the Royals don't make the PS, will their season be labeled a failure?...how about the Pirates?...and I don't want to hear that "the Yanx are different", because if they are put into the same perspective, they're not really different.
As you stated, this was a flawed team from the end of 2012. Nothing or very little was done to correct the issue and still with 3 weeks to go, they are 1 game out of the WC, incredible. Naturally I want them to make it, but with that said and the recent injuries that now have left the bullpen in chaos, I just don't see how they can. But with all of this said, and despite my gutless statements aimed at a select few, nothing would surprise me anymore with this group. I feel this offseason will be a blood bath, but for now, this group of Yankees should be considered as players to of have a good season. Dor the ownership and FO, you should be ashamed for what you have not done for this 3 Billion dollar asset you so cherish.
Sadly their position right now boils down to a couple of loses. Two more wins right now and they're amazingly in the mix.
