    Any recommendations?

Family member came to me with this question and immediately I thought of this site. I've gotten some great recommendations from here. Anyone research this lately so bro doesn't have to.

Last time our IT person said he just went through all this and sent me to Costco with the exact make and model. It worked out perfect.

    Budget: 400-800

If they get anything Mac, the parents can use a finder app to always know where the laptop is, and hopefully also know where their daughter is. Fewer worries about viruses and there's always an apple genius ready to help if problems arise. I would go for an entry level macbook.

For a 6th grade girl? If you spend over 400 bucks, you're getting ripped off (unless she wants to play high intensity games...)

Something like this would probably be perfect: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834231360

Bummer that it's Windows 8, but if she really hates that, you can downgrade to Windows 7 for free.

I agree. A 6th grade girl does not need a fancy computer with a lot of horsepower. Facebook, Word Processing, Google, and Snapchat don't need that much. $400 to $500 is a perfect amount. An 11 year old also is probably not going to be as gentle with it as an adult, so also consider that this will be broken sooner than later.

Something like this would be perfect.

Whatever happened to just offering them candy and a ride in your van?

Thanks for the tips. CiP brought up a good point about needing something durable and just covering the basics. However looking for something fast and with current technology.

Thanks for the suggestions and links.
