The love that baseball cheat David Ortiz gets from both the fans & more importantly the media. I mean this guy's name was on the original list of PED users & yet it never gets mentioned by anyone.

This past Saturday I went in for a trim and heard the Barber Shop Girl lamenting to her customer over the Rays losing to the Bostons. When he responded to her comments I knew in a heart beat that he was from Massachusetts. He was praising the Sox to the skies, noting that I was listening he asked which team I was for. On my reply that I was a Yankee Fan it brought a moment of silence. Then he started in on Arod, Pettitte, and Clemens being roiders and what cheats the Yankees were. When I brought up Ortiz he replied that "Big Pappi has never failed a test. I then asked what he thought of John Lackey a man who divorced his apouse cause she had cancer. His reply: I don't care as long as he wins.

As long as they win. And I guess to Red Sox fans that it's only cheating when someone else does it.

I hope the Tigers bomb Lackey back to the stone ages when he pitches tomorrow night.

Ortiz is the OJ Simpson of baseball. He insisted he was going to get to the bottom of his test. That lasted about as long as the words finished coming out of his mouth.

And the really truly pathetic part to all this is that he will in all likelihood make the HOF.

I lived in Massachusetts for time periods of 6 months first then returned for 3 more years, they are a little different up there.

...I dunno rick...I mean he's strictly a DH, and one that was linked to PEDs...I doubt he gets the votes.

...hell, Edgar Martinez still can't get in and he was just as good, if not better.

    Martinez---.312 .418 .515 .933

    Ortiz-------.287 .381 .549 .930

...Sox fans are, were, and always will be neurotic about anything concerning Baseball and its history, and especially so if the Yanx are part of the discussion.

While I agree with that, Shrek has had more exposure in the post season and delivered in the post season, so that is UNFORTUNATELY why he'll get the nod...

...gotta disagree...his link to PEDs will hurt his chances, as will the fact that's he's a DH.

...and personally, I consider PS stats more so the residue of a TEAM accomplishment, rather than the individual.

...Edgar Martinez never even got more than 36% of the HOF vote, and if "clean" players like Martinez, Harold Baines, Dale Murphy, Fred McGriff, Larry Walker, et al, can't get into the HOF, I don't see Ortiz being voted in.

I do agree that the PED's will hurt his chances a little, I think his postseason numbers, specifically the power, are going to carry him through, unfortunately...

His post season career numbers are currently:
.284 .394 .542 .935 with 15 HR and 54 RBI in 72 games (8 years, 7 with Boston)... not much off his career regular season numbers, but he played in 8 All-Star games (all with Boston) in his 17 years (and counting?)
7 years with 30 or more HR, 7 years with 100+ RBI. (431 HR, 1429 RBI on career)

While Edgar's numbers overall are better (.312 .418 .515 .933) with the exception of slugging, his post season numbers are .266 .365 .508 .873 over 34 games (4 years) with 8 HR and 24 RBI and had 6 All-Star appearances in his 18 seasons
1 year with 30 or more HR (albeit clean), 6 years with 100+ RBI (309 HR, 1261 RBI on career)

I definitely think Edgar should get in, especially over Shrek... He has 224 more hits than Shrek in 1 extra year, although it is really only 86 more games...

I just think HOF voters are going to look at SLG a little more closely with a DH rather than the other stats...

...I think PEDs will hurt his chances a lot and are ultimately what will keep him out. Voters are giving NO ONE respect if they were even suspected of roiding. (Bonds, Mac, Clemens, et al)

...and loling @ "shrek"...have not heard him called that in a while.

Jared Remey worked security for the Red Sox, according to the Boston Globe articles I saw the man was a huge roids user to enhance his body building. He also had a rap sheet 10 miles long yet was given a job working security for the Boston Red Sox. His dad got him the job but it seems to me that an MLB Club would do background checks on their employees. Gotta feel for Jerry Remey his kids were all losers.

In another 3 years he should reach 500 HRs & that may be the number that pushes him into the HOF. Edgar had just over 300 HRs but also won 2 batting titles. Personally I don't think either should get in because they both only played 1/2 a game. But I'd put Edgar before Papi because of his connections to PEDs.
