New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony said in a recent interview that he wants to opt out of the final year of his contract this summer and test free agency.

"I want to be a free agent," Anthony told the New York Observer. "I think everybody in the NBA dreams to be a free agent at least one time in their career. It's like you have an evaluation period, you know. It's like if I'm in the gym and I have all the coaches, all the owners, all the GMs come into the gym and just evaluate everything I do. So yes, I want that experience."

I would not expect him to do anything else. Lebron is a FA, Wade is a FA, and Melo missed out on that when they formed the big 3. My guess is that those guys are probably already talking and if the right opportunity arises to join forces - they might do it.

If not, Melo takes the Knicks max offer, and this becomes academic. That being said - the Knicks have to be smart. If this teams does not make a deeper run into the playoffs - they may have consider moving away from Melo, so it goes both ways.
