I'm trying to figure out ways to escape the "rat race". I hate my job and most of my day I'm bored without anything to do.

Aiming for location independence. Work from anywhere, generate passive income.

Anyone else trying to get out of this hellish work of 9-5 life?

I love my job and it's flexible. I had one like yours, but I worked even longer hours. I hated too; even though it was graphic designing. We need variety and alone time to masterbate

No kidding. I went on an interview the other week to do some part time work for another office off hours, they were offering me half of what I wanted and I told them to kick rocks. I have come to the realization that I can probably get another job, but any job is going to be just like this job in a different setting and with the same crazy fucks, the same gossipy coworkers. It blows ass. I have a few friends out job hunting and it sounds like the most dreary existence ever.

When you define "rat race," traffic congestion ranks at the top. Small (~50,000 population) independent (i.e. not suburbs) cities have no traffic congestion.

This whole week my life has been:

    go to work
    listen to people complain
listen to coworkers gossip about the kardashians
    go home
    cry myself to sleep

I have a couple friends that are searching with high qualifications. They have been living on unemployment for about a year now. It's tight as fuck in SoCal right now!

I actually love living here. I've been dealing with this sore neck from last week and had to cancel a few plans. Just going into work is so fucking annoying.

I'm going to bring some beers to work and drink them at my desk tomorrow. fuck it.

On a related note, a couple months back I heard about a study that was looking at happiness as related to employment vs unemployment, and commute times. The study found that people who commuted 2 hours per day (1 hour each way) had the same level of (un)happiness as people who were unemployed. Essentially the stress of a 2-hour commute was equal to the stress of not knowing how you were going to support yourself/family.

I think that's part of it. It took me a fucking hour to get home yesterday and I missed the first quarter of the blazers game. Usually takes me 20-30 minutes.

I imagine this is hyperbole, but just a heads up, you wont get unemployment if you're fired for drinking on the job.

You would have gotten the last couple of weeks off, with pay.
