Wow, he is really looking slim. He's certainly working very hard this summer, and I love it. Having this weight off his body is going to help him a lot. Not only will it improve his endurance and quickness, but it will definitely feel a lot better and he will have less weight to carry on his ankle.

Keep up the work big guy!

Well, you can't really tell the difference from the two pictures, but you can obviously tell he's lost a LOT of weight if you've ever seen him play before. Looks like he's really committed to pickup his game this season, just may be the year he finally breaks out.

Yeah if you have seen him on the court (especially as much as I have) you can tell a big difference. But here's a better pic:

^^^ Just look at the face and neck difference from this pic and the "after" pic in the opening post. He's lost a lot of weight and he's really slimmed down his stomach area as well.

Oh, sorry, I missed it. And Al is losing weight because he had too much body fat weighing down on his bad ankles. He has lost a bunch of weight and he got bone chips removed from his ankle, so having all this weight off of him will relieve a lot of pressure.

It's not like he lost muscle mass. The problem before was that he was a little bit chubby. But Al said his body fat % is the lowest it's ever been (like 8-9%). Losing this weight and playing on his ankle will be great for him. Then down the road when he is entirely confident about his ankle, he can start hitting the weight room hard.

And Al doesn't need to be extremely bulky anyway. His game is finesse with an array of post moves, he doesn't exploit the power game.

Damn, I can't wait to see Big Al in action this year!

not quite as lanky tho. ;)but if al can stay healthy and stay solid in the middle like he has been the past few years, he'll be scary.

I agree, the work ethic has come out of it's shell and the ankle is fixed. If he can just stay healthy I think Big Al can definitely become an All-Star caliber player in this league. All he needs is health and a shot (not a jump shot, I mean a shot as in playing time).

The fact that he's lost 30 lbs. and is a dedicated work-a-holic this summer is promising in itself. But this is a thing that I love: In a recent Celtics.com article, it says Big Al requested that the team does the bike outside in the sun so the sweat pours off more and you feel the burn. That right there shows me that he's developing great work ethic, and possibly some leadership. I love it!

I am going to go out and predict this right off the bat: Big Al has a terrific year and earns the starting role by the All-Star break.
