Former Oregon Duck football player Colt Kelikoa Lyerla was arrested in Eugene Wednesday on drug charges, police said.

Police said they spotted the 20-year-old sitting in a parked car near 7th Avenue and Polk while they were working on an unrelated drug investigation. Police said Lyerla appeared to be snorting a white powdery substance.

Police said Lyerla admitted to using and possessing cocaine. They agreed to meet at his home but police said once there, Lyerla ran from his car and into a nearby apartment.

Police arrested him a short time later after he came out.

Lyerla faces charges of possessing cocaine and interfering with a police officer.

Colt Lyerla left Oregon football program earlier this season, saying the decision was his and that he is withdrawing from the University of Oregon on good terms. He missed two games this year, including the Colorado game. He was kept out for unspecified violations of team rules.

He said he left the team for personal reasons and intends to pursue a professional football career.

Lyerla, a 2012 honorable mention All-Pac 12 selection, finished his college career with 34 catches for 565 yards and 11 touchdowns.

What a dufus. Doesn't he know that law = morality?

It's not like they're two separate sets of rules or anything.

    Actually...

My heart goes out to him. More than likely this is something he has no control over. And perhaps Chip Kelly's exit was a Omen for the kid.

I hope he can grab this by the horns and get himself together.

I have the same thoughts. The kid has serious issues in his life with substance abuse being one of them. Hope he can get control of his addiction as it's not just his NFL career at stake.

The NFL is now a pipe dream for him. Were I advising him I'd tell him to enter rehab (if needed), get serious mental health counseling and see if the Ducks will let him walk on next year. Stay clean, stay sober, see a therapist on a regular basis and then maybe he can continue on.

Didn't he hire an agent already? That would kill any chance of coming back to the ducks. If he checks into rehab or somehow proves to get his life in order, some team will take him. It won't be as high as he could have gone, but he'd still get picked.

Did he? If so, I think you're right. Despite his immense talent, we will see if he gets picked. As of today I doubt it. He has a LOT of damage control to do.

Yes he did. The Oregonian article mentioned something about it, but now I can't find it.

If he stands up and admits his problems, goes to rehab and takes it seriously, he will still make it to the NFL.
